UnderGround FC 8 PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Shane Nakamura (ranked 2718 p4p, 116 weight class) and Nikolas Vieira (ranked 5379 p4p, 174 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 wins, 0 losses and 0 draws, fighting out of Tokyo, Shane Nakamura!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 wins, 2 losses and 0 draws, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Nikolas Vieira!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Illya Tyunina and Vladimir Khabensky.



The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Vieira is defended easily by Nakamura.
Vieira shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Nakamura as he jumps to the side.
Nakamura stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Nakamura wants it to stay on the feet.
Shane Nakamura has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nikolas Vieira.

Nakamura gets the takedown into side control.

Vieira bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Vieira changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Nakamura tries to avoid it but Vieira manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Nakamura to the ground. Nakamura escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Nakamura half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Nakamura shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Nakamura decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Vieira is trying to stand up here but Nakamura is controlling him well.

Nakamura is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Vieira is just riding it out for now. Nakamura eventually gives up the hold.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Nakamura seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Nakamura wants to pass to mount but Vieira is defending the position.
Nakamura works his way into side control.

Vieira throws Nakamura to one side and escapes!
Nakamura fails with a takedown attempt.
Vieira shoots in for a takedown but Nakamura shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Vieira shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Nakamura as he avoids it easily.

Nakamura shoots in and bounces Vieira off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Nakamura's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Nakamura drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Nakamura jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Nakamura with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!

This has been an exciting period of action!

Vieira pushes Nakamura off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Nakamura looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Vieira is fending him off so far but Nakamura persists. Nope, Vieira circles away and we're back to standing.
Vieira tries to score a power double leg takedown but Nakamura sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Vieira somewhat.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Nakamura stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Nakamura wants it to stay on the feet.

Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Nakamura feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Nakamura won't allow Vieira to get back to his feet.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Nakamura leaves Vieira with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Nakamura shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Vieira pinned against the cage. Vieira gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shane Nakamura. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Vieira shoots in and drives through. Nakamura sprawls well.
Vieira goes for a double leg but Nakamura avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Nakamura continues to drive forward.

Nakamura manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Vieira on his heels. He'll look to pass Vieira's guard now, I'm sure.

Nakamura is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Vieira can do to turn this around?
Vieira tries to escape but Nakamura is in control.

Vieira is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Nakamura asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

I would just about give that final round to Nikolas Vieira.
I think Vieira has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
