Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Cliff Velasquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ken Sterling!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sterling has managed to clinch.
Velasquez tries to score a body lock takedown but Sterling shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Sterling manages to pull guard.
Sterling tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Velasquez throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Sterling works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Sterling is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Sterling keeping moving, preventing Velasquez from controlling successfully.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sterling looking to hit a scissor sweep but Velasquez is one step ahead there.
Velasquez seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Velasquez has taken the fight to the clinch.
Sterling on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Velasquez wants to take the fight to the mat but Sterling manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Sterling successfully pulls guard.
Sterling wants to sweep but no luck.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Velasquez stays in close to Sterling's body and controls the position.
Sterling wants to get back to his feet but Velasquez is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sterling is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Sterling is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Sterling avoids the attempt from Velasquez to control.
Velasquez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Sterling on the ground.
Sterling takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
It looks like Sterling might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Sterling moves to take his opponent's back.
Velasquez is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

Sterling working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

Sterling looking to break Velasquez's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Velasquez remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Sterling will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Sterling has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Velasquez has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

A lull in the action here.

Sterling has got one arm under Velasquez's chin. This could be trouble... Velasquez trying to control the other hand but Sterling gets it free and sqeezes tight - just a matter of time now! Yep, Velasquez has tapped out! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Ken Sterling!
