PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Marcus Krunov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yefar Mehwadi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Krunov comes to the cage accompanied by Marcus Krunov. Mehwadi has chosen Khe Sahn as his entrance music. Yefar Mehwadi will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Marcus Krunov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Yefar Mehwadi!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Bruno Lombardi and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Krunov misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Krunov looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Mehwadi is fending him off so far but Krunov persists. Nope, Mehwadi circles away and we're back to standing.
Krunov shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mehwadi but Mehwadi pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Marcus Krunov. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mehwadi closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Mehwadi tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mehwadi has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Krunov struggling a bit here.
Krunov is trying to get back to half guard.

Mehwadi is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Krunov is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Mehwadi is looking to take a break and control but Krunov is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Mehwadi takes advantage of some sloppy striking from Krunov to pass into mount.
Krunov has given up his back here.
Krunov covering up well and avoiding damage.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Mehwadi controlling the positon.
Krunov wants to escape the position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Mehwadi trying to control.
Krunov is trying to break free.
Krunov trying to control but not successfully.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Mehwadi has the hooks in. Krunov is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Krunov trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.

Krunov is in bad spot here.

Mehwadi patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
Krunov controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.
Mehwadi is hanging on to Krunov's back as he tries to escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mehwadi is working the ground and pound. Can Krunov escape?
Mehwadi is trying to stick to Krunov's back but Krunov is turning into Mehwadi. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Mehwadi's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Krunov.

Krunov has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Krunov slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Krunov lands a couple of elbows.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Mehwadi throws his legs up looking for a submission but Krunov uses it to pass to side control.

Krunov wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Mehwadi, who protects the arm well.

Krunov swings around for an armbar but Mehwadi sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Krunov's guard.

Krunov looking for a guillotine here but Mehwadi defends easily.
Mehwadi seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yefar Mehwadi dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Krunov clinches.
Krunov has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Mehwadi avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Krunov is trying to stall.
Mehwadi tries to pull guard but Krunov holds him up against the cage and eventually Mehwadi drops back down to his feet.

Krunov lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Ground and pound from Krunov.
Mehwadi keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Krunov is keen to just control but Mehwadi is a slippery customer.
Mehwadi is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Krunov seems to be working for a kimura but Mehwadi defends the submission attempt.
Mehwadi is pressing down on Krunov's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Krunov distracts Mehwadi with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Krunov trying to control but Mehwadi is working from the bottom.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Mehwadi pulls Krunov in close to prevent any damage.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Mehwadi has his takedown stuffed

and Krunov counters with a single leg into guard. Mehwadi didn't expect that.
Krunov working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Mehwadi looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Krunov passes into half guard.
Krunov trying to pass the guard but Mehwadi defending well.

Krunov is trying to control. Mehwadi wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Krunov is trying for a kimura here. Mehwadi looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Krunov wins by kimura!
