The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Herrera gets caught napping as Phoenix dives in and scores a takedown. Herrera manages to retain guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Phoenix pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Herrera is keeping the position for now.
Phoenix throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Phoenix throws a strike but Herrera rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Herrera working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Phoenix's head.
Phoenix is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Phoenix has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Phoenix pulls Herrera in close to prevent any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Phoenix is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Herrera rolls with it to try and escape but Phoenix cranks on the arm and Herrera is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
