The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Santiago looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Santiago feints and as Maximus raises his hands in defense, Santiago changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Santiago won't allow Maximus to sweep him here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Santiago postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Maximus is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Santiago, into his guard.
Maximus's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Santiago escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Maximus gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Maximus slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Maximus tries to free his leg and advance position but Santiago is retaining full guard.

Santiago looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Maximus is defending well. Santiago quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Maximus has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast!
