The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dempsey throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Watanabe.
A punch combination from Dempsey misses.
Watanabe shoots for a takedown but Dempsey saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Dempsey has managed to clinch.

Dempsey has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Watanabe regains guard immediately.

Watanabe had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Dempsey is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Watanabe Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Dempsey's back instead.

Watanabe has both hooks in and is working for a choke. Dempsey is in real trouble here. Watanabe gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, Dempsey is tapping out! Watanabe wins by rear naked choke!
