Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Red Velvet (ranked 4302 p4p, 351 weight class) and Jason Sparling (ranked 6029 p4p, 377 weight class). Jason Sparling has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Red Velvet!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jason Sparling !
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Stewart Dunkirk and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Velvet connects with a looping right hand.

Velvet gets the takedown into side control.
Velvet working away.
Velvet trying to control the position but Sparling is working away.
Sparling is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Velvet throws a strike aimed at the side of Sparling 's head but Sparling avoids it well.
Velvet controlling the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Velvet trying to control the action but Sparling is working from the bottom.
Sparling is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Velvet has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Sparling takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Velvet wants to control but Sparling is keeping him busy.
Velvet working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Velvet throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Sparling can't do much from the bottom here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Velvet lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Sparling down.

Sparling is trying to get back to half guard.

Velvet is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Sparling has escaped the position, nice work there.
Sparling is looking to reverse the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Velvet in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Sparling stops Velvet from passing to mount.
Velvet moves into full mount!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sparling is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Velvet pulls his head out easily.

Red Velvet overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Velvet wants to free his trapped foot but Sparling is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Velvet is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Sparling can do to turn this around?
Velvet is stalling here. Sparling is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Velvet seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Sparling has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Sparling is pushing down on Velvet's leg trying to pass to half guard. Velvet is fighting to maintain full guard but Sparling has managed to sneak the leg through.
Sparling performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Sparling is working for a submission of some sort.
Velvet keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Red Velvet will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Sparling takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Velvet seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Velvet is defended easily by Sparling .
Velvet dives in for a single leg takedown but Sparling sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Velvet fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Sparling avoids it really well and circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Red Velvet. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Velvet seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Velvet is just content to waste time from the top position. Sparling takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Sparling wants to stand and escape but Velvet is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sparling had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Velvet defends it easily.
Sparling wants to sweep but no luck.

Velvet trying to control the position from guard on top but Sparling is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Sparling is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Velvet wants to control from the top but Sparling keeps moving.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Velvet got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sparling has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Velvet has managed to get both his arms back between Sparling 's legs - danger averted.
Jason Sparling has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Red Velvet is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Velvet postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

And that's the end of the fight!
Red Velvet showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Velvet has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
