Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Donny Banks (ranked 24323 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hamish Davies (ranked 6226 p4p, 0 weight class). Davies has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Donny Banks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Hamish Davies!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Steve Erwin and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Banks closes the distance and clinches.
Banks tries to pull guard but Davies forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Davies escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Davies misses with a hook.
Davies lands a right hook to the body.
Banks throws a head kick but Davies moves out of range.

Banks closes the distance and clinches.
Banks has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Davies after a bit of a struggle.
Davies gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Banks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Donny Banks. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Banks jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Davies walks away with a smile on his face. Banks gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Banks on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Banks closes the distance and clinches up with Davies, looking for a takedown. Banks pushes Davies against the cage but Davies circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Davies misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Banks.

Banks managing to block the knees to the body from Davies.

Davies is trying to maintain a safe position but Banks gets an underhook and turns Davies into the cage.

Banks jumps into guard, dragging Davies to the mat.
Davies won't allow Banks to get back to his feet.

Banks working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Davies doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Davies manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Banks wants to sweep here but Davies controlling him for the moment.

Davies gets to his feet. Banks looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Banks misses with a kick to the body.

Banks clinches up with Davies and pushes him back against the cage.
Davies is trying to push Banks away but Banks has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Davies stalling in the clinch but Banks improves position.
Banks tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Davies smiles and moves away.
Banks misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Davies misses with a body shot.
Davies looks to land a combination but Banks avoids it well.
Banks attempts a counter takedown but Davies avoids it well and moves away.
A punch combination from Davies misses.

Banks throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Davies was covering up waiting for the punch and Banks finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Banks stands and steps away. Davies gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

and Banks counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Banks landing with the ground and pound.

Banks gets to his feet. Davies looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Banks wants to clinch up but Davies keeps it at a distance.
A punch combination from Davies misses.
Hamish Davies seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Davies misses with a hook.

Banks scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Banks decides to stand and escape the position.
Banks avoids a punch combination nicely.
Banks throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Davies's waist but Davies gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Banks off to one side.

Banks fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Davies sprawls well initially but Banks persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Banks decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Davies gets caught napping as Banks dives in and scores a takedown. Davies manages to retain guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Donny Banks will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Banks shoots for a double leg takedown but Davies sprawls well. He's pushed Banks's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Despite the aggression on Davies's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Hamish Davies is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Banks.
Banks is looking to take a break and control but Davies is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Donny Banks overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Banks throws a strike aimed at the side of Davies's head but Davies avoids it well.
Banks wants to control but Davies is keeping him busy.
Davies is breathing heavily.

Banks lands an elbow.
Davies is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Banks asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Banks remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Banks cracks Davies with a big right hand but Davies just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Banks gets control of Davies's arms and successfully pulls guard. Banks will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Davies wants to stand and escape but instead Banks has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Banks has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Banks postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Banks engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Banks works over Davies with some ground and pound from guard.

Banks stands up from Davies's guard - Banks perhaps looking for a knockout.
Banks is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Davies can do to turn this around?
Davies slaps away a takedown attempt from Banks, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Banks manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Davies on his heels. He'll look to pass Davies's guard now, I'm sure.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Davies pushes Banks off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Banks shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Davies as he avoids it easily.
As Banks backs off Davies throws a huge counter combo but Banks manages to avoid it all.
Hamish Davies seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Banks wants to clinch but Davies slips to the side
and Davies connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Davies!
Davies throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Banks misses with a body kick.
Davies looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Banks feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Banks shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Davies but Davies pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Banks shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Davies is trying to defend but Banks finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Davies has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Banks is on him like a limpet, forcing Davies back against the cage.
Davies tries to break the clinch but Banks is controlling the position.

Banks has clasped his hands together around Davies's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Davies tried to score with a low kick but Banks checks it.

Banks gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Banks tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Davies smiles and moves away.

I think Banks has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
