PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Willard Mcfarland (ranked 5082 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tatak Marines (ranked 6849 p4p, 0 weight class). Tatak Marines will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Willard Mcfarland!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 1, fighting out of New York, Tatak Marines!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Jorge Garcia and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mcfarland tries to clinch there but Marines circles away.
Marines slips under a jab.

Marines gets tackled into the cage by Mcfarland. Mcfarland maintains the clinch.

Mcfarland escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Mcfarland darts in and clinches Marines up against the cage.
Mcfarland is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Marines is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Mcfarland can't fight it off and eventually Marines manages to take the fight to the floor. Mcfarland looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Mcfarland wants to get back to his feet but Marines passes into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Marines prevents Mcfarland from improving his position.

Mcfarland is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Marines's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Marines's back!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mcfarland is landing with strikes from the back.

Mcfarland is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Mcfarland gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Mcfarland gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Mcfarland apologises and we restart here on the feet.

Marines fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Mcfarland to the ground. Marines is now in Mcfarland's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mcfarland looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Marines puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Marines decides to stand and escape the position.
Mcfarland throws a one two combo.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Mcfarland clinches.
Mcfarland is looking to break free of the clinch but Marines has double underhooks.
Marines keeps control of Mcfarland as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Mcfarland wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Mcfarland has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Mcfarland jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Marines walks away with a smile on his face. Mcfarland gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Mcfarland throws a lazy uppercut
and Marines counters with a nice body shot.

Marines closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Mcfarland did well to prevent Marines getting side control.
Marines working over Mcfarland with some ground and pound. Mcfarland looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Mcfarland works his way to full guard. Good work.
Mcfarland wants to stand up but Marines is controlling him.
Marines has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Mcfarland is proving hard to escape from.
Mcfarland looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Mcfarland had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Marines defends it easily.
Mcfarland might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Mcfarland manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Marines decides to stand up.

That was a close round but I would say that Willard Mcfarland will probably get the nod.

Mcfarland misses with a few strikes there.

Marines is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Mcfarland with a body shot.

Mcfarland will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Mcfarland has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Marines can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Marines got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mcfarland has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Marines has managed to get both his arms back between Mcfarland's legs - danger averted.

That was a close second round but I would say that Willard Mcfarland will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

and Marines counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Mcfarland thinking.

Marines shoots in and bounces Mcfarland off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Marines feints and as Mcfarland raises his hands in defense, Marines changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

and Marines counters with a left and a right that stings Mcfarland.

A nice side step and Marines releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

Mcfarland is staying active underneath Marines, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Mcfarland is looking to improve his position.
Mcfarland has a hand on Marines's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Marines takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Mcfarland keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Tatak Marines has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Tatak Marines comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Mcfarland has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
