PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Danial Dennis (ranked 24472 p4p, 0 weight class) and Arbien Quequegan (ranked 24339 p4p, 0 weight class). Arbien Quequegan told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Danial Dennis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Arbien Quequegan !
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Chris Downing and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dennis throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Dennis swinging wildly here.
A little jabbing left from Quequegan on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Dennis throws a push kick but Quequegan slaps the foot to one side.
As Dennis backs off Quequegan throws a huge counter combo but Dennis manages to avoid it all.

Quequegan drives through with a takedown into guard.

Dennis manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Dennis pulls guard successfully.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Quequegan avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Quequegan tries to free his leg and advance position but Dennis is retaining full guard.
Quequegan with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Dennis wants to stand but Quequegan is controlling the position.
Dennis is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Quequegan gets to his feet - Dennis follows without any prompting.

Quequegan changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Dennis looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Dennis bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Dennis gets caught napping as Quequegan dives in and scores a takedown. Dennis manages to retain guard.

Dennis is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Dennis fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Quequegan breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Quequegan tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Dennis is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Quequegan .

Quequegan drives through and clinches with Dennis against the cage.

Quequegan turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Quequegan manages to end up in side control.

Quequegan has control of an arm but Dennis manages to advance to Quequegan 's back!

Dennis has the hooks in. Quequegan is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Quequegan wants to control his opponent's hands but Dennis gets his hands free.

Dennis has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Quequegan has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Dennis working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Dennis is breathing heavily.
Quequegan tries to roll but Dennis sticks to his back.

Dennis is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Quequegan defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Dennis is trying to stick to Quequegan 's back but Quequegan is turning into Dennis. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Dennis's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Quequegan .
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Quequegan stays in close to Dennis's body and controls the position.
Dennis knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Quequegan on the ground.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Quequegan passes Dennis's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Dennis has one foot on Quequegan 's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Quequegan gets a clinch.
Dennis wants to break free but Quequegan has control.

Quequegan breaks from the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Quequegan tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Dennis pushes Quequegan up against the cage in a clinch.
Quequegan keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Dennis's efforts to push away.

Quequegan has hold of one of Dennis's legs. Dennis is fighting the takedown attempt but Quequegan gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Dennis wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Dennis has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Quequegan off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Quequegan displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Dennis.
Quequegan tries to counter with a clinch but Dennis shakes him off and moves away.

Quequegan closes the distance and pushes Dennis back into the cage.
We've been informed that Quequegan has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Quequegan takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Quequegan has clasped his hands together around Dennis's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Dennis tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Dennis manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Quequegan is looking to take a break and control but Dennis is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Dennis is looking to control Quequegan 's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Dennis avoid being mounted?

Quequegan landing strikes from the mount and Dennis is in trouble!

Quequegan postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Dennis looks a forlorn figure.

Let's hope that Quequegan has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Quequegan shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Quequegan showed some decent athleticism there.
Arbien Quequegan has got the better of the ground game so far.
Dennis lands with a few short shots to the body.
Dennis wants to control but Quequegan is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Dennis is trying to get back to full guard.

Arbien Quequegan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
