PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Quincy Ball (ranked 5280 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brock Redmand (ranked 6180 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Quincy Ball!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brock Redmand!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Tiny Johnson and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Redmand changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ball tries to avoid it but Redmand manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ball to the ground. Ball escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Ball thinks about countering with a head kick.
Redmand looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Ball is fending him off so far but Redmand persists. Nope, Ball circles away and we're back to standing.
Redmand slaps away a takedown attempt from Ball, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Redmand checks a low kick from Ball.
Redmand gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Ball counters with a left and a right that stings Redmand.
Quincy Ball has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brock Redmand.
Redmand throws a head kick that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Redmand closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Ball to the mat! Ball manages to get full guard.
Redmand looks winded!
Ball doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Ball is looking for a triangle but Redmand pushes his legs off easily.
Redmand being controlled here momentarily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ball punching to the body, from the bottom.
Ball wants to get back to his feet but Redmand is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Ball wants to hit a switch here but Redmand passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Ball there!
Ball manages to regain half guard. Good work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Redmand missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Redmand is looking to take a break and control but Ball is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Ball is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Redmand is thwarting Ball's attempts to control the position.
Redmand trying to control the action but Ball is working from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Redmand content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Redmand prevents Ball from improving his position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Redmand looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Redmand shoots for a double leg takedown but Ball sprawls well. He's pushed Redmand's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Redmand throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
It looked like Ball was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Redmand with a poor takedown
and Ball counters with a nice body kick.
Redmand gets off balance looking for a body kick
and Ball counters with a stiff right hand.

Redmand moves into the clinch successfully.
Redmand drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Ball gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Redmand prevents a takedown attempt there.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Ball controlling the action here for a moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Quincy Ball will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Redmand fails with a takedown attempt.
Ball keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Redmand is trying hard to land a takedown here. Ball sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Quincy Ball has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brock Redmand.

Ball rushes Redmand and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Ball tries to pull guard but Redmand won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ball tries for a takedown. No joy.
Redmand is breathing heavily.
Ball tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Redmand avoids it.
Redmand managing to block the knees to the body from Ball.
Ball fails to pull guard.

Redmand pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Ball takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.


It looks like Quincy Ball has been cut.

Redmand drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Ball tries to bench press Redmand off him but Redmand keeps the position.
Ball wants to control but Redmand postures up.
Ball managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Redmand.
Ball is trying to control Redmand's posture but Redmand avoids it.
Redmand lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Ball down.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
You can see the frustration on Ball's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Ball is looking to reverse the position.
Ball struggling a bit here.

Redmand is working to tighten his grip on Ball's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Ball has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Redmand is really squeezing tight and eventually Ball passes out! Redmand breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Brock Redmand!
A relieved looking Brock Redmand thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
