The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smalls moves into the clinch successfully.

Smalls manages to pull guard.
Smalls seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Riley throws a big right hand that misses.
Smalls pulls Riley in close to his closed guard and prevents Riley from doing any damage or advancing position.
Smalls wants to get back to his feet but Riley passes into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Riley is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Riley winds up and cracks Smalls with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Smalls slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Riley with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Smalls looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Riley puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Smalls is looking to control Riley's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Smalls avoid being mounted?

Riley is working for a submission of some sort.
Smalls wants to control but Riley is keeping busy and won't allow it.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Riley looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Smalls moves into full guard.

Riley missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Smalls is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Smalls is trying to hold Riley in close to prevent damage but Riley has managed to pass into half guard.

Riley is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Riley is thwarting Smalls's attempts to control the position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Smalls actively working from the bottom here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Smalls pushes Riley up against the cage in a clinch.

Smalls's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

It looks like Trenton Riley has been cut.

Smalls decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Smalls trying to control from half guard but Riley is working away.

Smalls decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Smalls throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Riley has taken the fight to the clinch.
Riley tries to pull guard but Smalls won't allow it.

Smalls has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Riley clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Smalls missing with strikes from the back.
Riley trying to control but not successfully.
Riley manages to reverse the position and now he's in Smalls's guard. Nice work there by Riley.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Smalls is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Trenton Riley overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Smalls utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Riley avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Smalls throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Riley escapes and throws Smalls's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Smalls misses with a strike from the bottom.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Smalls can't do much from the bottom here.

Smalls trying to control but Riley flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!
Riley is hanging on to Smalls's back as he tries to escape.
Smalls trying to control the position but Riley manages to sink in the hooks.
Smalls rolls, trying to escape but Riley keeps control of the position.

Smalls has hold of Riley's leg, trying to break free but it's let Riley lock up a rear naked choke! This could be big trouble! Smalls is turning an unusual color here… he's out! Riley throws him to one side and jumps onto the cage to celebrate with his fans.
