PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Robbie Fowler (ranked 5023 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Sousa (ranked 7700 p4p, 598 weight class). Sousa comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Thunderstruck kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! The key to victory for Robbie Fowler has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fowler lands with a right hand.
Fowler tries to clinch up but Sousa circles away and keeps his distance.
Sousa takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Sousa on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Fowler doesn't manage to clinch there - Sousa circles away.
Fowler tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Fowler misses with a low kick as Sousa jumps back.
Sousa unleashes a big counter combination but Fowler bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

Sousa raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

so Sousa counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Sousa slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Fowler is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Sousa is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Fowler can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Sousa controls the pace.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Sousa decides to return to a standing position.

Sousa changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Fowler looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Sousa is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Fowler is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Sousa stands up.
Fowler cracks Sousa with a good jab.
Fowler uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A clash of legs there as Sousa blocks the low kick.
Sousa appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.

Sousa gets in close and instigates a clinch.
A nice right hand lands inside from Fowler.
Fowler looking to throw knees to the head but Sousa is blocking nicely.
Sousa working hard to break the clinch.
Sousa blocking some punches.
Fowler lands a nice knee to the body.
Fowler tries a body shot but Sousa blocks it.

Fowler is fighting off a takedown attempt but Sousa is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Fowler to the mat. Fowler regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Sousa cracks Fowler with a solid left hand.
Sousa looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Sousa looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Fowler controls Sousa momentarily but Sousa frees himself.

Fowler working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Sousa doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Sousa manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Sousa passes Fowler's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Sousa has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Fowler defend it? Sousa steps over the head and cranks it - Fowler is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Sousa!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Chris Sousa!
After winning the bout, Chris Sousa thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
