Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Prince Atkinson (ranked 6898 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jonas Alexis (ranked 5126 p4p, 445 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Prince Atkinson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jonas Alexis!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Ryoma Takatsuka and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alexis stalks Atkinson and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Atkinson's face. Atkinson staggers backwards, shaken.
Alexis throws a left and a right that both miss

and Atkinson counters by moving into the clinch.
Atkinson tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Alexis avoids it.

Atkinson lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Alexis keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Alexis is trying to control but can't.
Alexis tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Alexis strikes from the bottom but Atkinson uses the opportunity to move to side control.

Alexis is looking to regain half guard here but Atkinson keeps moving and retains side control.
Atkinson landing a few strikes.
Alexis tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Atkinson wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Atkinson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Atkinson has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Alexis should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Alexis shoots in but Atkinson avoids the takedown attempt easily.

and Atkinson decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Alexis's guard.

Alexis isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Atkinson stacks Alexis on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Atkinson!

Atkinson stands up and beckons Alexis to his feet.

Atkinson gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Alexis is pressed up against the cage. Atkinson has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Alexis down to the mat. Alexis avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

and Atkinson counters with a series of strikes. Alexis will be more careful next time no doubt.
Alexis doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Atkinson counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Alexis!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Atkinson stands up and beckons Alexis to his feet.
Alexis closes the distance but Atkinson moves to the side

and Atkinson counters with a nice double leg into side control. Alexis won't be happy with that.
Alexis is trying to work for a sweep but Atkinson has mounted him!
Atkinson lands with some strikes.
Atkinson pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Alexis is trying desperately to improve position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Prince Atkinson dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Alexis feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Atkinson looking for a sweep. Not yet Atkinson, not yet.
Alexis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Atkinson swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Alexis wants to control from the top but Atkinson keeps moving.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Alexis passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.

Alexis is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Atkinson is looking to control Alexis's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Atkinson avoid being mounted?
Alexis stalling away here and it's allowed Atkinson to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Atkinson is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Alexis can do to turn this around?

Alexis stands and steps away. Atkinson gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Atkinson drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Alexis has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Atkinson has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Alexis is trying to break the clinch but Atkinson has him pressed against the cage.

Alexis breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Alexis.

Atkinson looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Alexis shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Prince Atkinson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jonas Alexis.

and Atkinson counters with a single leg into guard. Alexis didn't expect that.

Alexis tries to score a body lock takedown but Atkinson shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Atkinson has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Alexis is trying to keep an underhook but Atkinson manages to get the takedown into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Alexis throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Alexis tries to roll over but Atkinson keeps him under control.

Atkinson lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Atkinson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Alexis with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

A close second round but Jonas Alexis will probably get the nod - 10:9.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! And we move into the final round!

and Atkinson holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Atkinson decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Alexis, up you get!

Well Atkinson has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
