Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matthew Newell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steven Shaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Steven Shaw is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Matthew Newell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 2, fighting out of London, Steven Shaw!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, James Atkins and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Newell shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Shaw pinned against the cage. Shaw gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Newell fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Newell misses with a few strikes there.
Shaw fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Newell doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Shaw counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Matthew Newell. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Well, if Shaw is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Newell is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Shaw's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Shaw's back!
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Shaw has eaten all the pies!
Newell cracks Shaw with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Shaw from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Newell escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Shaw gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Newell tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Newell wants to sweep here but Shaw controlling him for the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Newell throws a nice looking combination but Shaw bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Newell changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Shaw looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Newell tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Shaw parries the strikes from Newell easily there. Newell is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Shaw to escape.
Newell tries to move to mount but Shaw blocks the move with his legs.

Newell is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Shaw defends it well.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Shaw wants to control from the top but Newell keeps moving.
Shaw seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Newell thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Newell is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Shaw stays in close to Newell's body and controls the position.
Newell will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Newell has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Shaw is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Newell can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Shaw. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Well Shaw has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
