Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dennis Baker (ranked 24772 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Leoni (ranked 5124 p4p, 0 weight class). Mike Leoni has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Dennis Baker's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dennis Baker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mike Leoni!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Columbo Gatti and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Baker tries to clinch up.
Baker backing away here, and Leoni unleashes a leg kick that just misses.
Leoni tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Baker was well out of range. Poor timing from Leoni.
Baker appears to be looking for a big counter.
Baker misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

and Baker counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Baker manages to pull guard.
Leoni loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Baker looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Baker could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Leoni won't allow Baker to sweep him here.
Baker might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Leoni has gone for a leg lock! Baker slips out almost immediately though and dives into Leoni's guard.


Leoni is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Baker would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Leoni has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Baker got a little sloppy there for a moment and Leoni has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Baker has managed to get both his arms back between Leoni's legs - danger averted.
Leoni wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Baker stands up over Leoni, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Leoni has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Baker can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Leoni changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Baker looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Leoni tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Leoni has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Leoni wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Baker, who protects the arm well.
Baker wants to get back to his feet but Leoni drags him back down.

That was a close round but I would say that Dennis Baker will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Leoni ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Baker moves away.

Baker feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Baker bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Leoni's guard.

Leoni has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Baker is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Leoni.

Baker is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Leoni is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Dennis Baker.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Baker, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
