PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tokkie Terblanche (ranked 3730 p4p, 54 weight class) and Flying Almighty Askren (ranked 7339 p4p, 101 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Terblanche might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Going Down. Flying Almighty Askren told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Tokkie Terblanche!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Flying Almighty Askren!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Andrew Berry and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Terblanche gets tackled into the cage by Askren. Askren maintains the clinch.

Askren has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Terblanche uses from the top position.
Terblanche trying to control the position from guard on top but Askren is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Askren doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Askren really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Terblanche. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Terblanche drops back looking for a leg! Askren is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Askren manages to kick Terblanche off! Terblanche jumps back into Askren's guard.
Askren is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Terblanche is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Askren has escaped the position, nice work there.

Terblanche is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Askren is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Askren tries to improve position but can't.
Terblanche throws a strike aimed at the side of Askren's head but Askren avoids it well.
Askren is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Terblanche's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Terblanche is working for a kimura but Askren is defending it quite comfortably.
Askren has his hands clasped together around Terblanche's back. He's all about the action.
Terblanche is thwarting Askren's attempts to control the position.
Askren is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Terblanche wants to take a breather but Askren is having none of it.
Terblanche is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Askren is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Terblanche is trying to work for a kimura but Askren is defending well.

Terblanche is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Askren is trying to get back to full guard.
Askren misses with some strikes from the bottom.

Askren utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Terblanche drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Terblanche jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Terblanche postures up in Askren's guard and throws a big left but Askren blocks it.

Askren is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Askren is nestled in close to Terblanche, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Terblanche is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Askren pulls his head out easily.
Terblanche is staying active underneath Askren, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Askren landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Askren connects with a nice short shot to Terblanche's temple.
Terblanche is refusing to be controlled, as Askren sits in half guard.
Askren takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Terblanche is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Askren scores with a couple of nice shots.

Terblanche is rocked!
Askren lands a massive shot from half guard that has rocked Terblanche! More strikes land and this one is all over! Askren jumps to his feet and is applauded loudly by the crowd!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Flying Almighty Askren!
Flying Almighty Askren decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
In defeat, Tokkie Terblanche stepped up to the mic, saying 'You are going down, my friend, down!'.
