PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ralph Drysdale (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dom Matthew (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ralph Drysdale!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dom Matthew !
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, David Schapiro and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matthew misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Nice sprawl there from Matthew as Drysdale shoots in.
Matthew will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Drysdale takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.


It looks like Ralph Drysdale has been cut.
Matthew just misses with a punch to the body.
Matthew slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Matthew doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Drysdale counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Matthew 's guard now.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Drysdale is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Matthew scores with a one two! Drysdale had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Drysdale takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Matthew throws a hook but Drysdale blocks it.
Matthew swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Drysdale moves out of range of the strikes.
Matthew throws a lazy right hand but Drysdale sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Matthew connects with a jab.

Drysdale fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Matthew sprawls well initially but Drysdale persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Drysdale is tying to control. Matthew wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Drysdale is looking for a kimura here.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Drysdale is trying to control the action in half guard but Matthew is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Drysdale is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Matthew is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Drysdale seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Matthew for as long as he can get away with.
Matthew has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Drysdale is working away from the top position though.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Matthew looks like he's trying to stand up.

That was a close round but I would say that Ralph Drysdale will probably get the nod.

Drysdale misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Matthew throws an overhand right that lands on Drysdale's shoulder, as Drysdale tries to avoid the shot.
The crowd cheers as Matthew lands an impressive looking overhand right. Drysdale doesn't seem phased though.

Drysdale wants to clinch up but Matthew keeps it at a distance.
Drysdale gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Drysdale throws a quick inside leg kick.
Drysdale shoots in but Matthew avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Drysdale takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Matthew connects with a nice looking jab.

Matthew cracks Drysdale with an open hand slap.
Drysdale fails to land the takedown.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Matthew misses with a series of wild punches.
Matthew tests Drysdale's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Drysdale changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Matthew tries to avoid it but Drysdale manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Matthew to the ground. Matthew escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Matthew connects with a right hand. Drysdale shakes it off.
Drysdale just misses with a punch to the body.
Matthew works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

so Drysdale counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Matthew is pulling down on Drysdale's head. It's preventing any offense from Drysdale, at least for the moment.
Drysdale is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Drysdale thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Drysdale wants to pass the guard but Matthew is keeping the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Dom Matthew will probably get the nod - 10:9.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Drysdale ducks right into an uppercut from Matthew .
Matthew lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Drysdale backs up against the cage.
Drysdale will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Matthew tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Drysdale closes the distance and clinches up with Matthew , looking for a takedown. Drysdale pushes Matthew against the cage but Matthew circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
A combination from Matthew does no damage.
Drysdale shoots in for a double leg but Matthew sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Drysdale changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Matthew fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Matthew is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Drysdale passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Drysdale wants to lay and pray for a moment but Matthew keeps working.

Drysdale tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Drysdale has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Drysdale is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Matthew is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Ralph Drysdale showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Drysdale has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
