PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Carroll Gentry (ranked 24919 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aiden Striker (ranked 5236 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Carroll Gentry!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aiden Striker!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Valeri Chadov and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Striker fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Gentry fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Striker rushes Gentry and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
Gentry is trying to force a seperation but Striker has the dominant position.
Gentry is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Gentry has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Striker ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Striker no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Striker is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Gentry might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Striker wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Gentry is now in half guard.

Gentry stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Striker pushes Gentry back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.

Striker breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Gentry is fighting off a takedown attempt but Striker is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Gentry to the mat. Gentry regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Striker is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Gentry prevents Striker from getting the reversal.

Gentry is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Striker has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Striker wants to get back to his feet.

Gentry with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Gentry is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Striker to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Striker shrugs it off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Carroll Gentry will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Striker feints and as Gentry raises his hands in defense, Striker changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Gentry bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Striker's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gentry drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gentry jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Carroll Gentry overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Striker is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Gentry is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Gentry is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Striker can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gentry wants to finish this one by submission but Striker is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Gentry.

Gentry avoids the attempt from Striker to control.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Gentry lands a couple of good shots and Striker has given up his back, trying to escape the position!

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Striker is trying to drag Gentry to the mat but Gentry just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Gentry has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Striker after a bit of a struggle.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Carroll Gentry. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Striker has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Gentry is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Striker wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Gentry has him pressed against the cage.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Striker takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Gentry is working for takedown but Striker is calmly controlling the position for now.

Striker looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Gentry puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Gentry looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Striker is looking to reverse the position.
Gentry lands a decent elbow from side control.
Striker is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Gentry is looking to take a break and control but Striker is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Striker is trying to control Gentry's posture but Gentry avoids it.
Striker tries to improve position but can't.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
You can see the frustration on Striker's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Gentry decides to take the fight back to the feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Carroll Gentry.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Gentry, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
