The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Cecil Peabody and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Piotrov fails in his attempt to clinch.

Piotrov bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Palhares is trying to improve his position.
Palhares can't do much from the bottom here.
Piotrov knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Palhares on the ground.
Palhares is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Palhares looking for subs from the bottom but Piotrov mounts him!
Palhares is looking to improve his position but Piotrov isn't that keen on the idea.
Palhares is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Piotrov will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Palhares wants to control but Piotrov is having none of it.
Palhares is in all sorts of trouble here.
Palhares should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Palhares manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Piotrov escapes and gets back to his feet.
Palhares tries to clinch up

and Piotrov moves into the clinch.

Piotrov comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Piotrov wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Piotrov is trying to break the clinch but Palhares has him pressed against the cage.

Piotrov pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Palhares misses with a takedown attempt - Piotrov sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Piotrov decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Piotrov tries to stand and escape but Palhares is controlling the position.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Palhares closes the distance looking to clinch

and Piotrov counters by moving into the clinch.
Piotrov is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Palhares is keeping busy.
Piotrov tries to break the clinch but Palhares is controlling the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Palhares pulls guard.

Palhares is looking for a triangle but Piotrov pushes his legs off easily.

Palhares working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Piotrov has passed into half guard!
Palhares makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Palhares.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Piotrov has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Palhares is proving hard to escape from.

Palhares is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a tringle but Piotrov frees his head nicely. Oh but Palhares has switched to an armbar! Piotrov is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
