PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kevin Huang (ranked 1093 p4p, 147 weight class) and Charles Carlyle (ranked 933 p4p, 122 weight class). Carlyle has chosen Ladies and Gentlemen as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 2, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kevin Huang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Charles Carlyle!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Robert Douchet and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Carlyle clinches with his opponent.

Huang gets control of Carlyle's arms and successfully pulls guard. Huang will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Carlyle tries to free his leg and advance position but Huang is retaining full guard.

Huang is looking for a triangle but Carlyle pushes his legs off easily.
Huang wants to sweep but no luck.

Huang is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Huang tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Carlyle showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Carlyle got a little sloppy there for a moment and Huang has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Carlyle has managed to get both his arms back between Huang's legs - danger averted.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Huang wants to control but Carlyle is having none of it.
Carlyle seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Huang is holding on tight.

Carlyle lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Huang manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Huang is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Carlyle pulls his head out easily.
Carlyle throwing shots but Huang is blocking nicely.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Carlyle is just content to waste time from the top position. Huang takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Huang tries to land a sweep but no joy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Charles Carlyle dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Huang fails with a takedown attempt.

Carlyle looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Huang!

Carlyle tries for a kimura but Huang is defending well.
Huang tries to bench press Carlyle off him but Carlyle keeps the position.

Carlyle is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Huang knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Carlyle frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Carlyle wants to control the action but instead Huang gets a body lock and reverses into Carlyle's guard! Nice work!

Huang slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Carlyle is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Carlyle manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Huang manages to get himself to full guard.

Carlyle is looking to advance position but Huang has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

The referee warns Carlyle that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Kevin Huang will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Carlyle scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!


It looks like Kevin Huang has been cut.
Huang shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Carlyle defends it nicely.
Carlyle tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Huang paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Huang feinted with a counter takedown.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Huang.
Carlyle misses the shot to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Huang shoots in looking for a takedown but Carlyle manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Huang's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kevin Huang. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Horrible takedown attempt by Huang or perhaps it was just good defense by Carlyle, which made it look bad.

Huang takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Huang lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Kevin Huang is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Carlyle lands a nice shot to the body.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Carlyle manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Huang on his heels. He'll look to pass Huang's guard now, I'm sure.
Carlyle wants to control from the top but Huang keeps moving.

Carlyle is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Carlyle must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Huang striking off his back but it's not causing Carlyle any problems.

Carlyle passes Huang's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Huang is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Carlyle's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Carlyle's back!
Huang seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Carlyle manages to reverse the position and now he's in Huang's guard. Nice work there by Carlyle.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Carlyle is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Huang will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Huang darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Carlyle doesn't manage to clinch there - Huang circles away.
Huang fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Carlyle tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Carlyle scores with a crisp jab that stopped Huang in his tracks.

And that's the end of the fight!
Charles Carlyle comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Carlyle has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
