PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Naruki Doi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ken Yoshida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Ken Yoshida was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Naruki Doi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ken Yoshida!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Luis Engracia and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Doi throws a body punch but Yoshida moves out of range.
Doi misses with a hook.

Doi moves into the clinch.
Yoshida blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Yoshida is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Yoshida throws an elbow but it misses.

Yoshida pulls guard successfully.
Yoshida throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Doi stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Yoshida swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Doi has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Doi is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Yoshida not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Yoshida has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Doi can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Doi might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Yoshida working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Doi.
Doi wants to control from the top but Yoshida keeps moving.

Yoshida looking to control.
Yoshida wants to sweep but no luck.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Doi trying to control the position from guard on top but Yoshida is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Doi goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Doi swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
The fight stays on the outside here - Yoshida looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Doi misses with a jab, cross combination.

Yoshida has managed to clinch.
Yoshida is trying to stall.

Yoshida successfully pulls guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Doi postures up.
Yoshida looking to hit a scissor sweep but Doi is one step ahead there.
Doi trying to control the position from guard on top but Yoshida is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Yoshida thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Doi avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Yoshida throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Yoshida looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Doi controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Yoshida striking off his back but it's not causing Doi any problems.
Yoshida keeping moving, preventing Doi from controlling successfully.
Doi trying to stand up but can't free himself from Yoshida's guard.
Doi is breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Doi wants to control from the top but Yoshida keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Doi misses with a body kick.
Yoshida clinches but Doi breaks the clinch
and Doi counters with a body kick.
Yoshida throws a series of punches but Doi moves out of range.
Yoshida doesn't manage to clinch there - Doi circles away.
Yoshida fails to land the takedown.
Yoshida throws a leg kick which misses Doi's front leg but catches the back leg as Doi tries to avoid it.
Yoshida moves away from the strike by Doi.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Doi avoids a kick to the body.
Yoshida throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Doi's waist but Doi gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Yoshida off to one side.
Doi ducks under a wild hook from Yoshida.
Doi is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Yoshida shoots in but no luck this time.
Naruki Doi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ken Yoshida.
Yoshida throws a leg kick but Doi sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Doi throws a body kick the misses
and Yoshida counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Yoshida shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Doi but Doi pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Doi waving his hands out infront of him, looking to distract Yoshida.

Yoshida shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Doi's guard.
Yoshida has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Yoshida postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Doi looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Yoshida puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Yoshida moves into full mount! Doi won't be happy about that!
Doi is working to get back to half guard.

That's five minutes gone in the round.

Yoshida has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Doi is forced to tap!
