Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Derrick Johnson (ranked 4056 p4p, 406 weight class) and Lucas Azambuja (ranked 5055 p4p, 483 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Derrick Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Lucas Azambuja!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Dirk Anderson and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson misses with a takedown attempt
and Azambuja counters with a nice body shot.
Some wild striking there from Azambuja.
Johnson misses with an uppercut.
Azambuja lands with a straight right. Johnson didn't see that one coming.
Johnson tries for a takedown but Azambuja circles away easily
and Azambuja counters with a left to the body.
The fighters circling - Azambuja throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Johnson throws a right hand that misses
and Azambuja counters with a three punch combo that has Johnson backing up. Johnson nods at Azambuja to acknowledge the strikes.
Johnson takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Johnson gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Johnson takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Derrick Johnson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Johnson is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Johnson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Azambuja swivels and escapes.
Azambuja scores with a jab. Johnson acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Azambuja slips under a jab.
Azambuja swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nice uppercut lands for Azambuja. That snapped Johnson's head back.

Johnson shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Azambuja manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Johnson tries to free his leg and advance position but Azambuja is retaining full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Johnson works over Azambuja with some ground and pound from guard.
Azambuja keeping moving, preventing Johnson from controlling successfully.
Johnson controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Johnson's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Azambuja trying to keep a closed guard but Johnson is proving a slippery customer.
Johnson trying to control the position from guard on top but Azambuja is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Johnson passes Azambuja's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Johnson slips a nice elbow through Azambuja's hands, connecting with Azambuja's forehead.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Johnson is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Johnson performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Johnson is looking for a kimura but Azambuja is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Johnson to get the leverage.
Johnson is looking to advance position but Azambuja won't allow it.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Azambuja tries to roll over but Johnson keeps him under control.
Azambuja is trying to stand.
Johnson is thwarting Azambuja's attempts to control the position.
Azambuja looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Azambuja really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Johnson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Johnson scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Lucas Azambuja will probably get the nod.
That's time! Johnson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Johnson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Azambuja fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Johnson throws a lazy uppercut
enabling Azambuja to counter with a crisp jab.

Nice takedown defense from Azambuja. No joy for Johnson on that attempt.
Azambuja throws out a counter right but Johnson avoids it with no problem.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Derrick Johnson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Johnson has his takedown stuffed
and Azambuja counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Johnson takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Azambuja has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A jab from Azambuja does it's job there.
Johnson shoots and misses
and Johnson takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Johnson throws out a loose jab but Azambuja uses good head movement to avoid it.
Johnson misses with a takedown
and Azambuja counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Azambuja lands a big right hand that sends Johnson crashing to the mat! Azambuja stays standing though and waves Johnson back to his feet!


Johnson is rocked!
Azambuja fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Oh Johnson is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Azambuja throws an uppercut from hell that sends Johnson clean off his feet! He's out cold! Azambuja stands back and admires his work as he thinks about that KO of the night award that is surely being wrapped up for him back stage.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:14 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Lucas Azambuja!
