PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Frank Stallone (ranked 2796 p4p, 232 weight class) and Manu Peralta (ranked 2668 p4p, 223 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Peralta's choice of entrance music: Moke boy - Hawaiian kickboxer. On his way into the cage it seems that Frank Stallone has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Frank Stallone seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Frank Stallone!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Manu Peralta!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Colin Fotheringham and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Peralta bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Stallone's head backwards.
Peralta scores with a nice body kick.
A punch lands to the side of Stallone 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Peralta lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Stallone shoots in and bounces Peralta off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Peralta is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Peralta seems to be working for a kimura but Stallone defends the submission attempt.
Peralta takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stallone regains full guard. Nicely done.
Stallone is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Spartans Gym that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Stallone has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Peralta is working away from the top position though.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Peralta connects with a nice short shot to Stallone's temple.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Peralta seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Peralta manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Stallone on his heels. He'll look to pass Stallone's guard now, I'm sure.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Stallone can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Peralta controls the pace.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Manu Peralta showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Peralta motions for Stallone to come forward. Peralta throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Stallone tries to counter with a takedown but Peralta is quick to defend against it.

Peralta remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Peralta prevents Stallone from improving his position.
Peralta wants to free his trapped foot but Stallone is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Peralta slows the pace down in half guard.

Peralta uses his free foot to push down on Stallone's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Stallone.

And that's the end of the fight!
Manu Peralta comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Peralta has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
