Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ace Ventura (ranked 4337 p4p, 459 weight class) and Will Brawler V (ranked 4499 p4p, 471 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Will Brawler V enters the cage!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Will Brawler V!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ventura closes the distance and clinches.

Brawler V pulls guard successfully.
Ventura prevents Brawler V from getting back to his feet.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Brawler V manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Ventura turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Ventura manages to end up in side control.
Ventura tries to stand but Brawler V is controlling his head.

Ventura decides to stand back up. Ventura steps back and let's Brawler V get back to his feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Ventura throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Brawler V blocks it with crossed arms.

Brawler V is trying to force a seperation but Ventura has the dominant position.

Ventura turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Brawler V wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Brawler V felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Ventura wants to stand but Brawler V has his arm trapped.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Ventura closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Brawler V to the mat! Brawler V manages to get full guard.

Brawler V has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Ventura has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
I was talking to Ventura's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Ventura breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Ace Ventura seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Brawler V shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Ventura feints and then cracks Brawler V's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Brawler V down.

Ventura moves into range and clinches up with Brawler V.

Brawler V pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Ventura rushes Brawler V and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Brawler V changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Ventura fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Brawler V is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Ventura moves into the clinch.

Ventura is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Brawler V is defending well for now.

Ventura manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Ventura holds on and takes a little breather.
Brawler V is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

That was a close round but I would say that Ace Ventura will probably get the nod.

Ventura is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Brawler V can't fight it off and eventually Ventura manages to take the fight to the floor. Brawler V looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Brawler V accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ventura is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Brawler V is controlling him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ventura tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Brawler V throws a sloppy strike and Ventura has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! Brawler V is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Ventura!
