PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kriss Cypher (ranked 3563 p4p, 446 weight class) and Jimmy Jackson (ranked 5815 p4p, 587 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Kriss Cypher!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jimmy Jackson!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Damien Edna and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jackson throws an off balance right hand
and Cypher counters with a lovely straight right hand!


It looks like Jimmy Jackson has been cut.
Cypher rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Jackson moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Jackson drives through with a takedown into guard.

Jackson controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jackson lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Jackson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Jackson controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Cypher definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
A punch combination from Cypher misses.
Jackson with the counter takedown but Cypher avoids it easily.
Jackson throws a right hand that misses
and Cypher connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Jackson misses with an uppercut
and Cypher counters with a series of strikes. Jackson will be more careful next time no doubt.
Jackson swings widly with a right hand
and Cypher makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jackson lands with a right hand.

Jackson dives in and scores a takedown into Cypher's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Jackson stands up over Cypher, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Jackson with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Cypher wants to stand and escape but Jackson is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cypher utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Cypher wants to stand but Jackson is controlling the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
A swing and a miss from Cypher.
Good exchange - Cypher coming out on top.
A cross from Jackson lands.
Cypher fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Jackson manages to avoid it.

Jackson shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Jackson was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Cypher wants to get back to his feet but Jackson drags him back down.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cypher tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Jackson wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
A lull in the action here.
Cypher is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Cypher has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Jackson is working away from the top position though.
Jackson with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Cypher is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Jackson is thwarting Cypher's attempts to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Kriss Cypher will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Jimmy Jackson's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Jackson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Jackson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Cypher being controlled here, momentarily.
Jackson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Cypher works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jackson is working Cypher over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Jackson throws an elbow that misses. Cypher uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Jackson's guard. Nice move by Cypher!

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Jackson is still trying to improve position.
Jackson manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cypher manages to get himself to full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jackson won't allow Cypher to get back to his feet.
Jackson slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Jackson loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Jackson rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Cypher cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Jackson is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Cypher.
A looping hook to the body misses from Cypher. Jackson does a little dance to reset his feet.
Jimmy Jackson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jackson slips a jab and a cross from Cypher.
Jackson just misses with a punch to the body.

Jackson misses with a body shot.
It looked like Cypher was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Jackson.

Jackson swings for the body but Cypher moves out of range.
Jackson lands with a shot to the body.
Donk. Cypher catches Jackson right on the button with a cross.


That has opened up Jimmy Jackson's cut even more.
Jackson moves out of range as Cypher strikes.
Jackson wants to counter with a clinch but Cypher pushes him away.
Jackson misses with a body shot

and Cypher counters with a crisp one two that drops Jackson! Cypher thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Jackson to his feet! Jackson is in big trouble!


Jackson is rocked!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jackson tries to get into range but Cypher steps to the side and lands a beautiful hook that drops Jackson! He's faceplanted into the mat, ass in the air... he's out cold! That's an image he won't want to show his grandkids when he gets older! Cypher scores the big KO victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Kriss Cypher!
Kriss Cypher seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
