Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alex English!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tony Smith!
The judges for this bout are , Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith clinches with his opponent.
Smith working hard to break the clinch.
English jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Smith walks away with a smile on his face. English gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Smith is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
English looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Smith is fending him off so far but English persists. Nope, Smith circles away and we're back to standing.
English shoots in and drives through. Smith sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alex English. That's going to take a lot out of him.

English clinches.

Smith wants the takedown. English is fighting it off but Smith persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in English's guard against the cage.

Smith drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Smith jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Smith wanted to stand there but English had control of the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

English has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Smith is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
English jumps guard but Smith stands there with English around his waist. English gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

English has clasped his hands together around Smith's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

English throws an elbow but Smith slips to the side and avoids it well.
English could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
English is trying to ground and pound but Smith uses the momentary lack of control by English to regain half guard.
English sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Smith defending well though.
Smith tries to get to full guard but English has control of the leg.

English is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Smith is pressing down on English's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
English stops Smith from standing up.
English knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Smith on the ground.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

English drops back, looking for a kneebar! Smith looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Smith looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Smith!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
English wants to control but Smith postures up.

Smith stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Smith fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging English to the ground. Smith is now in English's guard.

Smith stands and steps away. English gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Smith lands with a slapping head kick.


It looks like Alex English has been cut.
English doesn't manage to clinch there - Smith circles away.
Smith looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

English gets a clinch.

Smith ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Smith no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Smith manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Smith is trying to push English away but English has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Smith has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
English pushes Smith back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Smith gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Smith gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
English throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Smith rushes English and presses him up against the cage.
English can't get the takedown.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Smith working hard to break the clinch.

Smith pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Smith. English shrugs it off though.
Smith swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Nice takedown defense from Smith. No joy for English on that attempt.
Smith throws a counter combo.
English is breathing heavily.

English fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Smith to the ground. English is now in Smith's guard.

Smith uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Smith cracks the inside of English's front leg.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tony Smith dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Alex English's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Smith shoots in and gets a takedown into English's guard.

English is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

English has Smith pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. English pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Smith tumbling to the mat - English dives into Smith's guard.

Smith manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
English keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Smith's efforts to push away.
Smith tries to break the clinch but English is controlling the position.
English tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Nice body punch from Smith - that landed with a thud.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

English keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Smith's efforts to push away.

Smith ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Smith no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

English gets to his feet - Smith follows without any prompting.
English throws out a loose jab but Smith uses good head movement to avoid it.

Smith clinches up with English and pushes him back against the cage.

Smith turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
English throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.

Smith stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Smith closes the distance and clinches.

English drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
English stalling in the clinch.

English breaks from the clinch.
Smith has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
English misses with a takedown attempt
and Smith counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Smith goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Tony Smith seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Smith tries a head kick but it misses.
English shoots in for a double leg but Smith sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Smith throws a perfectly timed hook that sends English crashing down! English tries to stagger back to his feet but Smith just hammers him until the ref stops the fight! A confused English asks the ref what just happened. Poor fella.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:10 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Tony Smith!
