The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mims takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Kirk forces Mims back against the cage and clinches.
Mims has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Kirk clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Mims has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Kirk.
Kirk wants to escape the position.
Mims punches the canvas rather than the man.
Mims is trying to stick to Kirk's back but Kirk is turning into Mims. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Mims's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Kirk.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mims can do anything to dispel that myth.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kirk throws a big elbow that misses.

Let's hope that Mims has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

and Kirk counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Kirk tries for a takedown but Mims sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Kirk fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Mims, pushing him back against the cage.
