Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Niko Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tomohiro Tanahashi!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Dean Styles and Joseph Jones.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tanahashi keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Despite the aggression on Tanahashi's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Diaz throws a right hand that misses
and Tanahashi counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
It looks like Niko Diaz has been cut.
Diaz throws a sloppy body shot
and Tanahashi makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Tanahashi keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Danga de danga de dang - Diaz scores with a four punch combination!
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Diaz, as that shot connected.
Diaz looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Niko Diaz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tanahashi misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Tanahashi tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Diaz was well out of range. Poor timing from Tanahashi.
Diaz throwing a counter right hand but Tanahashi manages to avoid it.
Diaz misses the body punch
and Diaz takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Tanahashi throws a nice looking combination but Diaz bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Diaz lands with a shot to the body.
Diaz tries to land a front kick but Tanahashi steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Diaz tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
A jab from Tanahashi misses.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Tanahashi drops Diaz with a beautiful combination! Diaz stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Tanahashi is looking for the KO!
Diaz is rocked!
Diaz tries to get into range but Tanahashi steps to the side and lands a beautiful hook that drops Diaz! He's faceplanted into the mat, ass in the air... he's out cold! That's an image he won't want to show his grandkids when he gets older! Tanahashi scores the big KO victory!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:12 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Tomohiro Tanahashi!
