PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Axel Boozer (ranked 4985 p4p, 0 weight class) and Akkan Kubilay (ranked 4638 p4p, 0 weight class). Boozer's entrance music is Kraftwerk - The Model. A fine choice. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Akkan Kubilay was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Axel Boozer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Akkan Kubilay!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Dean Styles and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boozer tries to land a body kick

and Kubilay counters with a takedown into side control.
Kubilay advances nicely into full mount.
Kubilay wants to control the pace but Boozer is squirming around nicely.
Kubilay is looking to work his way around to Boozer's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.
Boozer can't escape the position.

Kubilay can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Boozer is looking to escape.
Boozer bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Kubilay escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Boozer gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kubilay is on top in guard.


Kubilay drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Boozer manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Kubilay has Boozer in his guard.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Boozer trying to control but Kubilay is working from the bottom.
Kubilay tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Boozer pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kubilay is keeping the position for now.
Boozer won't allow Kubilay to sweep him here.
Kubilay is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Kubilay pulls Boozer in close to prevent any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Boozer thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Boozer stands and throws Kubilay's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Boozer is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Kubilay knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Boozer thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Kubilay gets back to half guard.

Boozer looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Kubilay tries to roll over but Boozer keeps him under control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Kubilay is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Boozer pulls his head out easily.

Boozer seems to be working for a kimura but Kubilay defends the submission attempt.

Boozer is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Kubilay doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Boozer.

That was a close round but I would say that Axel Boozer will probably get the nod.

Kubilay slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kubilay tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Kubilay has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Boozer tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kubilay wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Kubilay is working to tighten his grip on Boozer's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Boozer has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Kubilay is really squeezing tight and eventually Boozer passes out! Kubilay breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Akkan Kubilay!
