Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sam Sanchez !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Van Starr!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Robert Twigg and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Starr lands a two punch combo.
Starr misses with a double jab
and Sanchez counters with a three punch combo that has Starr backing up. Starr nods at Sanchez to acknowledge the strikes.

Sanchez shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Starr looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Sanchez tries to pass to full mount but Starr defends it.
Starr tries to get to full guard but Sanchez has control of the leg.

Sanchez wants to control but Starr is keeping him busy.

Sanchez decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Jab, jab by Starr - just one landing.
Starr fails to land with a series of punches.
Starr thuds a left hand into Sanchez 's body.
Starr lands with an overhand left.

Sanchez looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Starr is looking for a triangle but Sanchez pushes his legs off easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Starr keeping moving, preventing Sanchez from controlling successfully.

Sanchez gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Sanchez throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Starr tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Sanchez is in Starr's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Starr had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Sanchez defends it easily.
Sanchez landing with the ground and pound.
Sanchez passes into half guard.
Sanchez is breathing heavily.
Starr is looking to improve his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sanchez gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Van Starr is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Starr takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Starr scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Sanchez throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Starr throws a combination. Sanchez tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Sanchez drives through and clinches with Starr against the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Starr tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Starr is looking to take this one to the mat.
Sanchez blocks an elbow strike from Starr.
Starr tries to pull guard but Sanchez forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Sam Sanchez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Van Starr.

Sanchez breaks the clinch.
Starr goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Starr throws a combination. Sanchez tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Starr stalks Sanchez and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Sanchez 's face. Sanchez staggers backwards, shaken.
Nice jab there from Starr.
Van Starr seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Starr lands a jab-cross combination.
Starr scores with a three punch combo!
Starr closes the distance and lands a one-two.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Van Starr dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Good exchange - Starr coming out on top.
Starr has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Sanchez fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Starr sprawls well initially but Sanchez persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Sanchez misses with a head shot. Starr uses the momentum to regain guard.
Sam Sanchez overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Sanchez stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Starr looks to land a combination. Sanchez sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Starr lands a jab to the nose.
Starr falls off balance throwing a combination

and Sanchez counters with a nice double leg into side control. Starr won't be happy with that.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Starr throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Starr stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Starr is working the combinations to good effect here.

Starr lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Sanchez backs up against the cage.
Starr is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Starr pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Sanchez back to the cage. Starr follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Sanchez decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Starr is trying to keep Sanchez in close.

Starr lands some strikes from the bottom.

Starr is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Sanchez presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Starr has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Sanchez is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Starr tries to stall but Sanchez uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Starr is persisting with his attempts to control the action in the clinch, rather than do any real damage.
Starr tries to break free but Sanchez pushes him back against the cage.
Starr is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Sanchez is keeping busy.
Starr tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Sanchez just stands there and leans against the cage.

Starr throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

Starr lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Starr.
Starr feints a jab promting Sanchez to slip. Starr then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Sanchez slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Starr moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Van Starr seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Nice uppercut lands for Starr. That snapped Sanchez 's head back.
Sanchez with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Starr to score with a decent uppercut.

Sanchez clinches up with Starr and pushes him back against the cage.
Starr has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
A frustrated look appears on Starr's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Starr is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Van Starr showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Sanchez throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Starr was covering up waiting for the punch and Sanchez finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Sanchez has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Starr wants to get back to his feet but Sanchez is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Starr is on top in guard.


Sanchez throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Starr escapes and throws Sanchez 's legs to the side, diving into side control!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sanchez manages to work his way to half guard, despite Starr's best efforts.
Sanchez might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Starr is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Sanchez defends it well.
Starr wants to take a breather but Sanchez is having none of it.
Sanchez on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Sanchez is looking to get back to his feet here but Starr is keeping cool and he's managed to take Sanchez 's back.

Starr has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Sanchez ! Can he survive? No! He's out! Starr gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
