PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Shannon White (ranked 1312 p4p, 157 weight class) and Niudu Kakka (ranked 1445 p4p, 171 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shannon White!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Niudu Kakka!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
White misses with a two punch combination.
Kakka throws out a counter right but White avoids it with no problem.
A head kick misses from White.
White tries to clinch up.
White throws a leg kick but Kakka moved away.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from White.
Kakka keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Kakka has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
White misses with a straight right.
We've been hearing reports that White has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kakka lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as White backs up against the cage.


It looks like Shannon White has been cut.
Shannon White seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
No luck with that takedown attempt from White.

Kakka has closed the distance and engaged White in a clinch.

Kakka pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
White misses with a leg kick

and Kakka counters with a single leg into guard. White didn't expect that.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

White escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kakka gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Kakka uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by White.

and White counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kakka won't be happy with that.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
You can see the frustration on Kakka's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Kakka is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Kakka stops White from passing to mount.
Kakka is not content to let White control the position.
Kakka tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kakka is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

White wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kakka keeps working.

White goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Kakka has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for White but great work by Kakka.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Kakka stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Kakka misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

White scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Kakka wants to get back to his feet.

White wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kakka, who protects the arm well.

White tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no White has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Kakka manages to get back to half guard.
White tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kakka knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

White is looking for a kimura but Kakka is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for White to get the leverage.
Kakka is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of White's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take White's back!
White rolls, trying to escape but Kakka keeps control of the position.
Kakka cracks White with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing White from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.
White is covering up but some of the strikes from Kakka are getting through and doing damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Niudu Kakka dominated that round.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Kakka misses with a jab, cross combination.

White bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Kakka bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

and Kakka counters with a three punch combo that has White backing up. White nods at Kakka to acknowledge the strikes.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
White shoots in looking for a takedown. Kakka tries to sprawl out of it but White keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kakka manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Kakka throws a right hand that White ducks under and follows up with a left that White also avoids with ease.
White drops down looking for a counter takedown but Kakka sprawls and moves away.

White jumps into guard, dragging Kakka to the mat.
Kakka with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Kakka gets to his feet - White follows without any prompting.
White misses with a leg kick.

White looking to score a takedown here. Kakka is defending well but White drives through and ends up in Kakka's guard.

Kakka has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. White is working away from the top position though.

White is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kakka defends it well.

Kakka manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. White keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

White is trying to pull guard but Kakka turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shannon White. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Kakka misses with a series of wild punches.
White attempts a counter takedown but Kakka avoids it well and moves away.
Kakka leaves White with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Kakka changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. White looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Kakka connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for White to escape the position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kakka lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.

Niudu Kakka showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! White's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


White tries to land a leg kick but Kakka saw it coming and moves away.

White moves into range and clinches up with Kakka.

Kakka slips under a jab.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Kakka! But no joy.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Kakka.
White half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
White throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Kakka has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

White throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
White misses with a body shot.
Kakka avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Kakka is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Kakka throws a nice looking combination but White bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
White throws a series of punches but Kakka avoids them all with ease.
White throws a right and a left that both miss.

White is looking to clinch but Kakka is avoiding it.
Kakka looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
White feinted with a counter takedown.
White tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Kakka was well out of range. Poor timing from White.

White tries to close the distance and clinch up but Kakka swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Kakka throws a right and a left that both miss.
Kakka tries for a takedown but White sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Shannon White has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Niudu Kakka.
White tries to clinch but Kakka moves out of range.

Kakka has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but White regains guard immediately.

Kakka is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so White is just riding it out for now. Kakka eventually gives up the hold.

White is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Kakka pulls his head out easily.

White is defending against the submission attempts here by Kakka.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kakka prevents White from standing back up.
Kakka working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Kakka must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Niudu Kakka is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Niudu Kakka comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Kakka winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
