The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gracie fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Freire sprawls well initially but Gracie persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Freire looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Gracie trying to control the pace.
Freire is looking to improve his position.
Freire trying to control but Gracie postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gracie content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Gracie is tying to control. Freire wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Freire on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Freire tries to get out of the position.

Gracie tries to stand and escape but Freire is controlling the position.
Gracie looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Freire is trying to get back to full guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Gracie in particular looking to stall.

Gracie stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Freire to get to his feet.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Gracie closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Freire to the mat! Freire manages to get full guard.

Gracie should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Gracie frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Gracie is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Gracie extends the arm and Freire is forced to tap!
