PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Donnell Kline (ranked 25397 p4p, 0 weight class) and Danish Ali (ranked 5413 p4p, 0 weight class). Danish Ali will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Donnell Kline!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Danish Ali!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Wesley Smith and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kline gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Ali to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Ali working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Ali missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Kline wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Kline could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Ali won't allow Kline to sweep him here.
Ali trying to control the position from guard on top but Kline is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kline has a closed guard, preventing Ali from standing up.

Kline has his foot on Ali's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ali works his way back into a safe position though.

Ali is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Kline reverses the position - he's now on top in Ali's guard.

Ali controls Kline momentarily but Kline frees himself.

Kline is looking to take a break and control but Ali is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Kline wants to get back to his feet.
Ali wants to improve his position but Kline is controlling well.
Kline looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Kline is trying to control the action in half guard but Ali is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Ali has one foot on Kline's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Ali lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Ali darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Kline makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Ali throws a body punch but Kline moves out of range.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Kline gets caught napping as Ali dives in and scores a takedown. Kline manages to retain guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Danish Ali will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Kline has Ali up against the cage in a clinch.

Ali lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Kline or not.
Ali is pressed up against the cage. Kline has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Ali down to the mat. Ali avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Kline clinches.

Ali is trying to trip Kline. He has hold of a leg but Kline is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Ali persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Ali postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Ali stands up from Kline's guard - Ali perhaps looking for a knockout.

Ali feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

and Kline counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Ali!
Ali is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

Kline working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Ali can't do much from the bottom here.
Ali is breathing heavily.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Kline throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Kline scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Ali to see if he's OK.
Ali is not content to let Kline control the position.
Kline lands some shots froms side control.

Kline is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ali is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Ali is looking to regain half guard here but Kline keeps moving and retains side control.

Kline looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Ali dodges the ground and pound from Kline.
Ali pushes Kline away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Kline gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Kline is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Ali knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

That was a close second round but I would say that Donnell Kline will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Ali drives through with a takedown into Kline's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Ali is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Kline pulls Ali in close to his closed guard and prevents Ali from doing any damage or advancing position.
Kline has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Ali wants to pass the guard but Kline is keeping the position.

Ali wants to get up but he can't break Kline's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Kline thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Ali looking to sit in guard and control but Kline gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Kline would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Kline might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Kline stands up from Ali's guard - Kline perhaps looking for a knockout.

Ali closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Kline quickly recovers to half guard.
Ali throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Kline to regain full guard.

Kline has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Ali off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Kline shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Ali takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Kline prevents Ali from improving his position.

Kline looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Kline wants to take a breather but Ali is having none of it.

Ali is trying to stand.
Kline throwing shots but Ali is blocking nicely.
Ali wants to control but Kline is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Ali on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Ali is staying active underneath Kline, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Ali looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Kline pushes past his half guard into mount!
Kline tries to control but Ali wriggling away.

Kline with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Kline is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Ali has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Ali really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kline. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Kline is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Ali can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Ali wants to control but Kline is having none of it.

I think Kline has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
