Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Gunnar Friland!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Friland shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Craig is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Craig looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Friland trying to control the position from guard on top but Craig is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Craig tries to land a sweep but no joy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Craig seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Craig gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Friland to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Craig manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Friland manages to get himself to full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Friland is fighting to break Craig's control of his arms but Craig is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Craig preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Craig is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Craig's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Friland wants to stand but Craig is controlling his posture from full guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Friland changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Craig looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Friland tries for a kimura but Craig is defending well.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Craig is trying to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gunnar Friland dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Friland clinches.
Friland is trying to drag Craig to the mat but Craig just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Friland pulls guard successfully.

Friland is working an open guard so Craig takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Craig stuffs the takedown attempt from Friland. Friland gets slowly back to his feet.
Craig is looking for a counter combo.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Friland tries a head kick but it misses.

Friland clinches with his opponent.

Craig is looking to break free of the clinch but Friland has double underhooks.

Friland breaks from the clinch.
Friland looks to score with a jab to the body but Craig is just out of range.
Craig changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Friland has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Friland darts in and clinches Craig up against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Craig's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Craig blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Craig stalling against the cage.
Craig tries to break free but Friland pushes him back against the cage.

Friland pulls guard.
Craig wants to stand but Friland is controlling his posture from full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Friland is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Craig dives into side control.
Craig will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Craig tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Craig has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Craig throws an elbow but Friland slips to the side and avoids it well.
Friland is looking to reverse the position.
Craig landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Friland is trying to buck Craig off.

Friland is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Craig's leg. Oh but that's left an opportunity for Craig! He's got an arm triangle... it looks tight! He's rotating and Friland has tapped! This one is allllll over!
