PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Aaron Paul (ranked 5108 p4p, 0 weight class) and Den Mark (ranked 4821 p4p, 0 weight class). Den Mark is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Aaron Paul!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Den Mark!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Daniel Bishop and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paul lands with a nice body punch.
Paul throws a combination that misses

and Mark counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Paul is wriggling around but Mark manages to pass to half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mark throwing shots but Paul is blocking nicely.
Mark prevents Paul from standing back up.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Mark in particular looking to stall.
Mark has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mark stops Paul from getting back to his feet.

Mark is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Paul can't keep his opponent in guard - Mark advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Paul wants to get back to his feet.
Paul trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Mark tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Paul defends well and Mark ends up having to push Paul into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Paul lands a slapping body shot.
Paul tries to bum rush Mark with a series of wild strikes but Mark uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Paul throws a left and a right that both miss

and Mark counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Mark perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Mark's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Den Mark dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Mark shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Paul as he avoids it easily.
Paul shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mark as he jumps to the side.
Paul lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Paul.
Paul lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Mark circles away quickly and effectively.

Paul throws a nice looking combination but Mark bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Mark stuffs the takedown.

Horrible takedown attempt by Mark or perhaps it was just good defense by Paul, which made it look bad.
Paul looks to land a combination but Mark avoids it well.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Paul!
Mark looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Paul is fending him off so far but Mark persists. Nope, Paul circles away and we're back to standing.
Aaron Paul has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Den Mark.
Paul fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Paul lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Mark backs up against the cage.

Paul stuffs the takedown attempt from Mark. Mark gets slowly back to his feet.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Paul is trying to stand up here but Mark is controlling him well.
Mark seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Paul tries to kick Mark off but Mark keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Mark is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Paul looks to land a combination but Mark avoids it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Aaron Paul dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Mark shoots for a takedown but Paul saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Aaron Paul seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mark uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Paul.

Mark drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Paul defends it well.

Aaron Paul has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Den Mark.
Mark blocks a head kick by Paul.
Mark showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Paul.
Mark is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Paul with a body shot.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Mark is defended easily by Paul.
Paul tries to counter by clinching up but Mark breaks away and moves out of range.
Mark swings widly with a right hand
and Paul cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Paul swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Mark counters with a shoot takedown. Paul fights it but they end up in guard.
Paul wants to stand but Mark is controlling the position.
Den Mark has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

And that's the end of the fight!
Aaron Paul showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Paul has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
