PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Steve Sanchez (ranked 1496 p4p, 190 weight class) and Reno Rawlings (ranked 2097 p4p, 245 weight class). Sanchez kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Where is My Mind? by Pixies. Rawlings has chosen Burned as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Steve Sanchez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 12 - 1, fighting out of New York, Reno Rawlings!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Gregory Folan and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rawlings tries a head kick but it misses.
Sanchez misses with a body shot
and Rawlings counters with a straight right hand.
A swing and a miss from Rawlings.
Rawlings takes one on the button.
Rawlings shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sanchez but Sanchez pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Sanchez defending well as Rawlings loads up on a big left hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sanchez jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Rawlings uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Sanchez.
Rawlings throws out a counter right but Sanchez avoids it with no problem.
Sanchez connects with an inside leg kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sanchez missing with a left hand there. Rawlings was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Rawlings feints and then cracks Sanchez's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Sanchez down.
Sanchez finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Rawlings doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Sanchez scores with the left hand. Rawlings knows he should have avoided that one.
Sanchez moves into range and connects with a jab.
Rawlings throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
A little feinted left hand from Sanchez on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Rawlings rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Sanchez counters with a stiff right hand.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Rawlings has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Sanchez throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Nice cross by Sanchez.
and Sanchez counters with a massive uppercut that badly hurts Rawlings! He's just covering up as Sanchez starts to tee off till the referee steps in and stops the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Steve Sanchez!
A relieved looking Steve Sanchez thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
The defeated Reno Rawlings had this to say: '(Dracul laughs... he then disapears.)'.
