PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Donnell Kline (ranked 25388 p4p, 0 weight class) and Harry Potter (ranked 6155 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Donnell Kline!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Harry Potter!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Frank Dennis and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Potter scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Kline tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Potter presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Kline is wriggling around trying to escape.
Kline could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Kline bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Potter not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Kline trying to control but Potter is working from the bottom.
Kline seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kline's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Potter wants to sweep here but Kline controlling him for the moment.
Kline seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Potter connects with a couple of short punches.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Potter distracts Kline with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Potter is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Kline has a closed guard, preventing Potter from standing up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Potter throwing strikes but missing.
Kline seems keen to control Potter's posture.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Kline avoids the body shot from Potter.

Kline tries to sprawl but Potter drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Kline might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Potter stands up from half guard.

Potter looking to score a takedown here. Kline is defending well but Potter drives through and ends up in Kline's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Potter is working for an americana but Kline has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Potter was thinking about the submission.
Kline is trying to keep Potter in close.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Potter accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Potter wants to get up but he can't break Kline's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Kline tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Kline is breathing heavily.
Potter controlling from the top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


A chopping leg kick lands by Potter.
Potter has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Kline looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Potter moves into the clinch successfully.
Potter displaying some good clinch control by pressing Kline up against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A frustrated look appears on Kline's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Kline drags the fight down to the ground.
Potter content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Potter stands up from Kline's guard - Potter perhaps looking for a knockout.
Potter fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kline manages to avoid it.
Potter throws a nice outside leg kick.

Potter feints and as Kline raises his hands in defense, Potter changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Kline not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Potter trying to control but Kline is working from the bottom.
Potter looking to sit in guard and control but Kline gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Potter is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Potter scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Kline on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Potter looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Nice strikes from Potter there.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Potter decides to stand and escape the position.

Potter fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Kline to the ground. Potter is now in Kline's guard.

Potter throws a strike but Kline rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Potter is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Potter wants to sweep here but Kline controlling him for the moment.

Potter is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Potter wants to stand and escape but Kline is having none of it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kline with a nice head shot there.
Potter is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Kline is controlling him.
Kline throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Potter works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Kline engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Kline throwing strikes from guard but Potter blocks nicely.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Kline is looking to stand up but Potter won't let him.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kline throws a leg kick but Potter sees it coming and moves out of range.
Potter fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Kline is out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Harry Potter showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Kline gets caught flat footed, as Potter shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Kline scrambles and gets back to his feet.
An inside leg kick from Potter misses.

Kline gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Potter to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Kline pushes Potter off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Potter ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kline moves away.

Potter looks to throw the jab but Kline is out of range.

Potter feints and as Kline raises his hands in defense, Potter changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Potter throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Potter lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Potter stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kline swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Kline keeping moving, preventing Potter from controlling successfully.

Potter drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Kline dives on top into guard.

Potter is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Potter can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Kline controls the pace.
Kline in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Kline throws a big elbow that misses.
Kline missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Potter is looking to sweep but instead, Kline has passed into half guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Potter manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Harry Potter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Good work by Kline as he checks the leg kick.
Kline wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Potter lands a jab to Kline's midsection.

Potter has closed the distance and engaged Kline in a clinch.

Potter has clasped his hands together around Kline's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Potter decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Potter wants to land a leg kick but Kline is out of range.

Potter clinches up with Kline and pushes him back against the cage.
Donnell Kline has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Harry Potter is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Potter effectively controlling the action here.

Harry Potter comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Potter has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
