PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Luic Tom (ranked 5224 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kimo Latchman (ranked 5436 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Luic Tom!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Kimo Latchman!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Sandra Marshall and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Latchman shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Tom as he jumps to the side.
A looping hook to the body misses from Latchman. Tom does a little dance to reset his feet.

Tom fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Latchman sprawls well initially but Tom persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Tom is trying to control. Latchman wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Latchman is concentrating on defense, preventing Tom from advancing position.
Latchman pushes Tom off looking to stand but Tom dives back in and keeps control.
Latchman is trying to control but Tom manages to pass to mount!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tom takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Latchman defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Tom.

Tom breaks from Latchman's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Tom is trying to control here but Latchman has managed to regain half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Latchman trying to control from the bottom.
Well, if Tom is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Latchman trying to hold on to Tom's head to control him but Tom postures up.
Latchman tries to get to full guard but Tom has control of the leg.

Tom seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Latchman does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Tom tries to pass the half guard into mount. Latchman knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Tom is looking to take a break and control but Latchman is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Tom is nestled in close to Latchman, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tom throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Tom throwing shots but Latchman is blocking nicely.

Tom wants to control but Latchman is keeping him busy.
Tom missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Tom is just content to waste time from the top position. Latchman takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Latchman really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Tom. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Tom throws a big right hand that misses.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Tom's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Tom controlling from the top position.
Tom wants to control from the top but Latchman keeps moving.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Latchman tries to clinch

and Tom counters with a nice double leg into guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Tom stopping the sweep attempt from Latchman.
Tom trying to control the position from guard on top but Latchman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Tom not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Tom has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Latchman keeping moving, preventing Tom from controlling successfully.
Latchman is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Tom wants to control from the top but Latchman keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Latchman forces Tom back against the cage and clinches.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Tom breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Tom swats away the attempt to clinch by Latchman.
Latchman looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Latchman fails with an attempt to clinch.
Latchman shoots in but no luck this time.
Tom changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

Latchman clinches up with Tom and pushes him back against the cage.
Latchman managing to block the knees to the body from Tom.

Tom pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Tom could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Tom avoids the head kick by Latchman.
Tom tries to counter by clinching up but Latchman breaks away and moves out of range.
Kimo Latchman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tom tries to clinch up but Latchman circles away and keeps his distance.
Latchman shoots in for a takedown but Tom shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Tom is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Latchman.
Luic Tom has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kimo Latchman.

Latchman gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Tom is standing up over Latchman. Latchman looks to escape but Tom dives into side control.


Tom working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Tom staying calm.
Tom is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Latchman can do to turn this around?
Latchman takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Tom wants to control but Latchman is keeping him busy.
Tom looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Latchman is avoiding damage well.

Luic Tom overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Tom prevents Latchman from improving his position.

Tom is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Latchman has managed to free his arm - good work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Latchman tries to roll over but Tom keeps him under control.
Tom is trying to control. Latchman wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Latchman slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Tom is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Latchman.
Tom missing with a left hand there. Latchman was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Latchman will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Latchman tries to clinch but Tom is having none of it.
Tom attempts a counter takedown but Latchman avoids it well and moves away.

Latchman goes for a double leg but Tom avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Tom continues to drive forward.
Latchman shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Tom but Tom pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Tom prevents the takedown attempt.
Tom tries to pull guard but Latchman forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Tom breaks from the clinch.
Latchman shoots in looking for a takedown but Tom manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Latchman's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Tom half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Tom drives through with a takedown into guard.
Tom is pushing down on Latchman's leg trying to pass to half guard. Latchman is fighting to maintain full guard but Tom has managed to sneak the leg through.

Latchman takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Luic Tom showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Tom, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
