PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dick Army (ranked 1761 p4p, 270 weight class) and Alexander Yakovlev (ranked 1741 p4p, 266 weight class). Army's entrance music is Dick Army. A fine choice. Yakovlev has chosen Maroon 5 - Sugar as his entrance music. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 37 - 23 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Dick Army!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alexander Yakovlev!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Steven Brown and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yakovlev throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Army's waist but Army gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Yakovlev off to one side.
Yakovlev misses with a combination

and Army counters by moving into the clinch.
Yakovlev is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Army breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Yakovlev throws a right and a left that both miss.
Army pushes Yakovlev away with a front kick.
Yakovlev has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.


It looks like Alexander Yakovlev has been cut.
Army misses with an uppercut.
Army throws a predictable looking body shot
and Yakovlev counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Horrible takedown attempt by Yakovlev or perhaps it was just good defense by Army, which made it look bad.
Yakovlev looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Dick Army has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alexander Yakovlev.
A jab from Army finds it's way through Yakovlev's defenses.

Yakovlev tries to land a leg kick but Army saw it coming and moves away.
Yakovlev throws a looping overhand right but Army ducks down to avoid it.
Army swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.

Yakovlev throws a strike but Army rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Yakovlev is pulling down on Army's head. It's preventing any offense from Army, at least for the moment.
Army stays in close to Yakovlev's body and controls the position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Army trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Dick Army is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Yakovlev throws a poor cross that misses
and Army counters with a stiff right hand.
Yakovlev scores with a three punch combo!
Army dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Yakovlev. That did some damage!

Army misses with a head kick.
It seemed like Yakovlev was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Army throws a half hearted mid kick.
Yakovlev rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Army moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Alexander Yakovlev seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Yakovlev closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Army quickly recovers to half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Army is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Yakovlev jumps into side control!
Army is not content to let Yakovlev control the position.
Yakovlev advances to full mount.
Yakovlev trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Army is trying to stand up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Dick Army will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Alexander Yakovlev's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Army stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Army jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Army lands a nice leg kick that just misses Yakovlev's sensitive parts.
Yakovlev has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Yakovlev there as he acknowledges the shot.
Yakovlev misses with a hook. Army ducked under it nicely.

Yakovlev bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Army is not content to let Yakovlev control the position.
Army prevents Yakovlev from moving into mount.
Yakovlev wants to control but Army is keeping him busy.

Yakovlev has knee on belly and moves into mount.

Yakovlev takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Yakovlev jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Army is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Army and Yakovlev has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Army throws a wild body kick that Yakovlev sees coming a mile off.
Army throws a head kick but Yakovlev moves out of range.
Dick Army is winning the standup battle so far.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Yakovlev.
Yakovlev takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Yakovlev lands with an overhand left.
Yakovlev looks to score with a jab to the body but Army is just out of range.

Army lands with a good body shot.

Yakovlev shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Yakovlev wants to control from the top but Army keeps moving.

Army is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

A close second round but Alexander Yakovlev will probably get the nod - 10:9.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Army throws a sloppy head kick and Yakovlev moves out of range easily.

Yakovlev has managed to clinch.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Yakovlev.
Army is trying to force a seperation but Yakovlev has the dominant position.
Yakovlev is trying to maintain a safe position but Army gets an underhook and turns Yakovlev into the cage.
Army can't break the clinch.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Army.

Army is fighting off a takedown attempt but Yakovlev is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Army to the mat. Army regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Yakovlev is pulling down on Army's head. It's preventing any offense from Army, at least for the moment.
Army slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Army gets to his feet - Yakovlev follows without any prompting.
Army stuns Yakovlev with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Yakovlev misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Yakovlev throws a chopping leg kick but Army manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Army seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Army pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Yakovlev lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

and Army counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Nice body kick from Army.
Yakovlev shoots in but Army avoids the takedown attempt easily.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Army.
Yakovlev takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Good shot there by Army.


That has opened up Alexander Yakovlev's cut even more.
Army connects with a right hand. Yakovlev shakes it off.
Yakovlev thows a left - swing and a miss!

Yakovlev manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Army on his heels. He'll look to pass Army's guard now, I'm sure.
