PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Ruanti (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Queensberry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Daniel Ruanti!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Jack Queensberry!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Sam Margolis and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruanti slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Ruanti shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Queensberry but Queensberry pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Queensberry throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Ruanti's waist but Ruanti gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Queensberry off to one side.
The fighters circling - Ruanti throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Queensberry looks to land a combination. Ruanti sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Ruanti scores with a crisp jab that stopped Queensberry in his tracks.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Ruanti wants to take a breather but Queensberry is having none of it.
Queensberry really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ruanti. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Ruanti avoids the attempt from Queensberry to control.
Queensberry tries to reverse the position but Ruanti maintains control.

Ruanti with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Ruanti is breathing heavily.
Ruanti prevents Queensberry from getting the reversal.

Ruanti wants to finish this one by submission but Queensberry is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Ruanti.
Queensberry tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Ruanti jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Queensberry manages to avoid the submission attempt.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Queensberry regains half guard.
Ruanti is nestled in close to Queensberry, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Ruanti stops Queensberry from getting back to his feet.
Ruanti looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Queensberry has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ruanti is working away from the top position though.
Ruanti looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Queensberry with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Queensberry is trying to get back to full guard.
Well, if Ruanti is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Ruanti wants to pass to mount but Queensberry is defending the position.

Ruanti landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Ruanti is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ruanti works his way into full mount!

Ruanti has hold of Queensberry's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Queensberry manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Queensberry defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Ruanti.

Queensberry keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Queensberry flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Ruanti lands a big shot there that rocks Queensberry but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Queensberry is trying to escape the mount.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ruanti moves out of range of the body kick from Queensberry.

Ruanti gets a takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Queensberry is defending against the submission attempts here by Ruanti.

Ruanti looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Queensberry wants to get back to full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Queensberry looks like he's trying to stand up.

Queensberry is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Daniel Ruanti overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Ruanti is looking for a kimura but Queensberry is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ruanti to get the leverage.

Ruanti is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Ruanti thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Queensberry's head.
Queensberry tries to kick Ruanti off but Ruanti keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Ruanti throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Ruanti jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Queensberry is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Queensberry and Ruanti has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Queensberry pushes Ruanti away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Ruanti gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Ruanti wants to lay and pray for a moment but Queensberry keeps working.

Queensberry tries to close the distance and clinch but Ruanti swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Ruanti looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Ruanti closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Ruanti is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Queensberry has escaped the position, nice work there.
Queensberry tries to buck Ruanti off but Ruanti is having none of it.

Ruanti working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Queensberry lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Queensberry.
Queensberry tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Ruanti paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Queensberry stalks Ruanti and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Ruanti's face. Ruanti staggers backwards, shaken.
Ruanti swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Queensberry counters by clinching up.
Ruanti tries to score a body lock takedown but Queensberry shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Ruanti stops a takedown attempt from Queensberry.

Queensberry breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Ruanti tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Queensberry lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Ruanti backs up against the cage.
Queensberry doesn't manage to clinch there - Ruanti circles away.
Daniel Ruanti is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Queensberry instigates a clinch.

Ruanti breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Queensberry lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Queensberry has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Ruanti.

Queensberry gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Queensberry tries to reverse the position but Ruanti maintains control.

Ruanti has control of Queensberry's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Queensberry regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Queensberry tries to lock up and control but Ruanti gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Jack Queensberry has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Ruanti wants to control the pace but Queensberry is squirming around nicely.
Queensberry can't escape the position.

Ruanti moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Queensberry has worked his arm free - good work by Queensberry!
Queensberry tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Ruanti lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Queensberry down.
Queensberry is looking for a sweep.
Queensberry takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Queensberry is not content to let Ruanti control the position.

Ruanti is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Queensberry has escaped the position, nice work there.

And that's the end of the fight!
Daniel Ruanti showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Ruanti, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3 rounds of action, we go to the scorecards for a decision.
