PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Braiden Mattison (ranked 6628 p4p, 515 weight class) and Jordan Wilkinson (ranked 6246 p4p, 502 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wilkinson shoots in but Mattison avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Mattison shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Wilkinson pinned against the ropes. Wilkinson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Mattison fails with a takedown attempt.
Wilkinson lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mattison working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Wilkinson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Wilkinson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Mattison is looking for a triangle but Wilkinson pushes his legs off easily.

Mattison escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Wilkinson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Mattison pulls Wilkinson in close to prevent any damage.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Mattison tries to close the distance and clinch up but Wilkinson swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Wilkinson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mattison tries to avoid it but Wilkinson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mattison to the ground. Mattison escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Wilkinson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Mattison closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Mattison instigates a clinch.

Mattison manages to break the clinch.
Mattison tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Wilkinson defends well and Mattison ends up having to push Wilkinson into the ropes where they will battle it out in the clinch.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Braiden Mattison dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Wilkinson.

Mattison goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Wilkinson jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Mattison walks away with a smile on his face. Wilkinson gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Braiden Mattison has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jordan Wilkinson.

Wilkinson ties up his opponent against the ropes and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Wilkinson no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Wilkinson is rocked!

Mattison remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Wilkinson is still in real trouble! Can Mattison finish him?

Mattison is working to tighten his grip on Wilkinson's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Wilkinson has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Mattison is really squeezing tight and eventually Wilkinson passes out! Mattison breaks the hold and jumps onto the ropes to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
