PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Simba Moso (ranked 8048 p4p, 563 weight class) and Ricky Rivera (ranked 6503 p4p, 516 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Moso might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to The Lion Sleeps Tonight. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Simba Moso!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ricky Rivera!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Arvi Lind and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rivera uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Moso.
As Moso backs off Rivera throws a huge counter combo but Moso manages to avoid it all.
Rivera shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Moso as he avoids it easily.
Moso takes a swing at Rivera's ribcage but misses.
Moso fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Rivera throws out a counter right but Moso avoids it with no problem.
Moso pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Moso has been working on his balance at Hardpunch (13 Elite / 1000$, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Rivera.
Moso tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Moso throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Rivera's waist but Rivera gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Moso off to one side.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rivera bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Rivera dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
A looping hook to the body misses from Moso. Rivera does a little dance to reset his feet.
Rivera is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Rivera scores with a three punch combo!
Rivera closes this distance looking for a takedown but Moso circles away.

Rivera looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Moso tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Moso lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

and Rivera counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Rivera moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Rivera shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Moso as he avoids it easily.
Moso looks to land a combination. Rivera sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Rivera shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Moso pinned against the cage. Moso gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Moso scores with a jab to the body.
Simba Moso seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rivera scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Rivera on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

Moso fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Rivera avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Moso fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Rivera manages to avoid it.
Rivera throws a counter combo.

Moso shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Moso was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rivera is trying to buck Moso off.
Moso lands a few punches from side control.
Moso is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Simba Moso will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Moso scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Rivera doesn't seem bothered though.
Rivera uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Moso.
Rivera shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Moso sprawls well. Moso wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Rivera gets slowly back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rivera throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Moso is looking to wear down Rivera with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

enabling Rivera to counter with a crisp jab.
Moso tries a head kick but it misses.
Rivera lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Moso slips a jab and a cross from Rivera.
Rivera keeps the fight on the outside.
Moso takes a swing at Rivera's ribcage but misses.

Moso drives through with a takedown into Rivera's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Our spies down at at Roosters Coop inform us that Rivera has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?
Rivera can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Moso controls the pace.

Moso pushes down on Rivera's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Moso works his foot free and advances to mount.
Moso throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Moso controlling the pace for now.
Moso trying to control but Rivera is having none of it.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Rivera is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Rivera is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Moso lands with some strikes.

Moso looking to control but Rivera is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Moso is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Rivera can do to turn this around?

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Simba Moso dominated that second round.
That's time! Moso's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Rivera changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Moso tries to avoid it but Rivera manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Moso to the ground. Moso escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Rivera avoids the body shot from Moso.
Moso lands with a kick to the ribs.
Moso throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Rivera's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Moso dives in looking to finish as Rivera flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Moso's strikes! Moso is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Rivera's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Rivera was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:23 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Simba Moso!
A relieved looking Simba Moso thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
