PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Orlando Murphy (ranked 8320 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Vobora (ranked 5342 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Orlando Murphy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, David Vobora!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Steve Smith and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick from Vobora lands but Murphy takes it in his stride.


It looks like Orlando Murphy has been cut.
A head kick misses from Vobora.
Murphy keeps the fight on the outside.
As Vobora tries to get set, Murphy tries to push him back and clinch up but Vobora manages to avoid the attempt.

Murphy throws a quick counter kick to the body but Vobora avoids it.
Murphy misses with a leg kick
and Vobora counters with a one-two to the body.

Vobora drives through with a takedown into Murphy's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Murphy pulls Vobora in close to prevent any damage.
Vobora trying to control the position from guard on top but Murphy is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Murphy controls Vobora momentarily but Vobora frees himself.
Murphy throws a nice elbow from the bottom.

Murphy working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Vobora doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Vobora manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Murphy wriggles free and stands up.
Vobora throws a sloppy head kick and Murphy moves out of range easily.
Vobora lands with a kick to the ribs.
Murphy throws out a leg kick but Vobora moves out of range and Murphy only half commits.
Vobora looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.
Murphy could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Vobora tries to clinch but Murphy is having none of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Vobora throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Murphy.
Vobora throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Murphy's head.
Vobora tries to close the distance and clinch but Murphy swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Murphy misses with a low kick.
Vobora lands a nice hook to Murphy's body. Murphy takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Murphy takes a kick to the side of the head.
Vobora looks winded!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Vobora tries to clinch but Murphy is having none of it.
Vobora pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Vobora throws a sloppy head kick

and Murphy counters by moving into the clinch.
Murphy has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Vobora after a bit of a struggle.
Vobora is pressed up against the cage. Murphy has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Vobora down to the mat. Vobora avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Murphy clinches up with Vobora and pushes him back against the cage.

Murphy jumps guard and drags Vobora to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Vobora must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Murphy trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Murphy wants to sweep here but Vobora controlling him for the moment.
Vobora really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Murphy. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Murphy seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Vobora got a little sloppy there for a moment and Murphy has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Vobora has managed to get both his arms back between Murphy's legs - danger averted.
Vobora is fighting to break Murphy's control of his arms but Murphy is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Murphy is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Murphy has his foot on Vobora's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Vobora works his way back into a safe position though.

Murphy escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Vobora gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Vobora throws a sloppy head kick and Murphy moves out of range easily.

Vobora gets tackled into the cage by Murphy. Murphy maintains the clinch.

Vobora has picked Murphy up - he's going for a ride! Vobora dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Murphy kicks off Vobora and gets to his feet.
David Vobora seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Vobora tries a head kick but it misses.
David Vobora seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Murphy shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Vobora but Vobora pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Vobora throws a sloppy head kick and Murphy moves out of range easily.
Vobora is breathing heavily.

Murphy shoots in and gets a takedown into Vobora's guard.
Vobora is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Murphy dives into side control.

A lull in the action here.
Murphy seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Vobora for as long as he can get away with.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Murphy is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Vobora will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Murphy continues to stall.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Vobora tries to bench press Murphy off him but Murphy keeps the position.

Murphy thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Murphy remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Murphy throws a solid leg kick but Vobora takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Murphy.
Vobora moves in looking to clinch but Murphy pushes him off.
Murphy misses with a leg kick.
Vobora is clearly looking to counter with head kicks.
Murphy shoots in for a takedown but Vobora shows good takedown defense.
Vobora tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Murphy paws at him with a jab and circles away.

and Vobora counters with a series of strikes. Murphy will be more careful next time no doubt.

Vobora feints and as Murphy raises his hands in defense, Vobora changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Vobora looking to sit in guard and control but Murphy gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Murphy controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Vobora takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Vobora wants to control but Murphy passes easily into half guard.

Still in half guard, Murphy seems content to control.
Murphy slips a nice elbow through Vobora's hands, connecting with Vobora's forehead.
Murphy slows the pace down in half guard.

Murphy is looking for a kimura but Vobora is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Murphy to get the leverage.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Murphy perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Murphy scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Vobora can do anything to dispel that myth.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Murphy misses with a kick to the body.
Murphy throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Nice takedown defense from Vobora. No joy for Murphy on that attempt.
Murphy tries to land a front kick but Vobora steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Murphy tries to work over Vobora's front leg with a kick but Vobora checks it.

Murphy rushes Vobora and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Vobora is fighting to break Murphy's control of his arms but Murphy is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Murphy is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Murphy is looking for a triangle but Vobora pushes his legs off easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
Orlando Murphy showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Murphy has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
