PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Garrett Adkins (ranked 6283 p4p, 0 weight class) and Braun Strowman (ranked 4046 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Garrett Adkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Braun Strowman!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Atkins and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Strowman gets a clinch.
Strowman looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Adkins is trying to break the clinch but Strowman has him pressed against the cage.
Adkins tries to score a body lock takedown but Strowman shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Strowman tightens his grip and picks Adkins up, before dumping him to the ground. Adkins manages to land in guard.
Adkins lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Adkins controlling from the top position.
Adkins has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Adkins would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Adkins controls from within his opponent's guard.
Adkins seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Strowman for as long as he can get away with.
Strowman controls Adkins momentarily but Adkins frees himself.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Adkins seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Adkins fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Strowman! But no joy.

Adkins looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Adkins seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Strowman wants to improve his position but Adkins is controlling well.
Adkins uses his free foot to push down on Strowman's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Strowman.
Strowman is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Strowman's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Adkins takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Adkins fails to take his opponent's back.
Adkins controlling the position easily from mount.
Strowman felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Adkins's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Strowman tries to control Adkins's body but Adkins pushes him off. Strowman squirms to his side and now Adkins has his back!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Strowman drives through with a takedown into guard.

Adkins is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Adkins bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Strowman's guard.

Strowman wants to get back to his feet but Adkins is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Adkins stays in close to Strowman's body and controls the position.
Strowman is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Adkins stops Strowman from standing up.
Strowman being controlled here, momentarily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Adkins decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Strowman, up you get!

Strowman pushes Adkins up against the cage in a clinch.

Adkins tightens his grip and picks Strowman up, before dumping him to the ground. Strowman manages to land in guard.

Adkins gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Strowman throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Adkins was covering up waiting for the punch and Strowman finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Adkins wants to sweep here but Strowman controlling him for the moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Strowman wants to control from the top but Adkins keeps moving.
Adkins keeping full guard, as Strowman tries to pass.
Strowman wants to get up but he can't break Adkins's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Strowman won't allow Adkins to sweep him here.
Strowman postures up.
Adkins striking off his back but it's not causing Strowman any problems.
Strowman trying to control but Adkins is working from the bottom.
Adkins manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Strowman manages to get himself to full guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Garrett Adkins will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Adkins shoots in and bounces Strowman off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Adkins controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Strowman takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Further stalling from Adkins.
Strowman has a closed guard, preventing Adkins from standing up.
Adkins controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Strowman gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Strowman escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Adkins avoids the head kick by Strowman.

Adkins has taken the fight to the clinch.
Strowman is looking to control Adkins's arms but Adkins gets an underhook and turns him. Now Strowman has his back to the cage.

Adkins jumps into guard, dragging Strowman to the mat.
Strowman trying to control the position from guard on top but Adkins is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Adkins is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Strowman defends well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Adkins keeping moving, preventing Strowman from controlling successfully.
Adkins manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Strowman manages to get himself to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Braun Strowman has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Garrett Adkins is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Garrett Adkins showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Adkins, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
