PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Vito Roy (ranked 24776 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Ferguson (ranked 5461 p4p, 242 weight class). David Ferguson told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vito Roy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, David Ferguson!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Mauricio Rocha and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Roy dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Roy tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Ferguson fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Roy avoids it really well and circles away.
Roy appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Ferguson looks for a takedown but Roy sprawls well.
Roy tries to counter by clinching up but Ferguson breaks away and moves out of range.
Ferguson misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Vito Roy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of David Ferguson.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ferguson closes this distance looking for a takedown but Roy circles away.

and Roy counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Roy.

Ferguson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Roy has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ferguson has managed to get both his arms back between Roy's legs - danger averted.
Ferguson wants to pass the guard but Roy is keeping the position.
Ferguson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Roy looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Ferguson wants to stand and escape but instead Roy has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Ferguson is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Roy defends well.

Roy landing with the ground and pound.
Roy postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Ferguson has momentary wrist control but Roy slips an elbow through the middle.

Roy decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Ferguson, up you get!
Ferguson looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Roy has closed the distance and engaged Ferguson in a clinch.
Ferguson wants a takedown.
Ferguson wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Ferguson tries to pull guard but Roy won't allow it.

Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Ferguson jumps guard but Roy turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Roy tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Ferguson smiles and moves away.

Roy closes the distance and clinches.

Ferguson tries to break the clinch but Roy is controlling the position.

Roy ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Roy no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Roy scrambles and gets back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Roy lands a jab.
Ferguson shoots and misses

and Roy moves into the clinch.
Roy is looking for a takedown.
Ferguson is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Roy avoiding damage as Ferguson throws knees to the body.
Ferguson wants to break free but Roy has control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ferguson is trying to maintain a safe position but Roy gets an underhook and turns Ferguson into the cage.

Roy gets control of Ferguson's arms and successfully pulls guard. Roy will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Roy's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Ferguson gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Roy to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Ferguson trying to control the position from guard on top but Roy is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Ferguson stands over his opponent and dives in with a flying punch! Roy throws up his legs and catches Ferguson in a triangle! Oh this looks tight! Ferguson tries to escape but he's forced to tap! Wow, fantastic work there by Roy! That came out of nowhere!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Vito Roy!
