Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, David Poulain!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Raul Santiago!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Elvis Blanc and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Santiago as Poulain shoots in.
Santiago throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Poulain uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Santiago.
Santiago throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Poulain looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Santiago is fending him off so far but Poulain persists. Nope, Santiago circles away and we're back to standing.
Santiago lands with an overhand left.

Poulain looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Santiago!

Poulain is going olschool here, as he tries to force Santiago to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Santiago shrugs it off.
Santiago is looking to get to half guard.
Poulain throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Santiago because Poulain loaded up on that one.
Santiago is squirming around, avoiding Poulain's attempts to control the action.
Poulain throws a strike there. Santiago manages to avoid it well and slips a leg under to get to half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Santiago regains full guard. Nicely done.
Poulain trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Poulain postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Santiago can do anything to dispel that myth.
Santiago wants to sweep here but Poulain controlling him for the moment.

Santiago uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Poulain ducks under a wild hook from Santiago.
Raul Santiago is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Poulain takes one to the side of the head.
Poulain slips a straight right by Santiago.
Santiago ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Poulain moves away.
Santiago swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Poulain fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Poulain. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Santiago dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Poulain is breathing heavily.
Santiago's corner calls for a 1-2. Santiago obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Santiago throws out a loose jab but Poulain uses good head movement to avoid it.
Santiago swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Poulain slips a straight right by Santiago.

Poulain closes this distance looking for a takedown but Santiago circles away.
Santiago lands a slapping body shot.
Poulain takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Santiago!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Santiago lands a big uppercut and Poulain crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Poulain looks OK. Santiago waves Poulain back to his feet!


Poulain is rocked!


It looks like David Poulain has been cut.
Poulain walks straight into a right hand from Santiago - that's dropped him! Santiago jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Poulain from any more punishment! Poulain complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:05 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Raul Santiago!
