PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Brad Barnes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Headden (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Barnes's entrance music is Red Right Hand - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. A fine choice. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brad Barnes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Steve Headden!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Tiny Johnson and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barnes looks for the body kick but Headden saw that one coming.
Barnes tries to clinch up.
Headden throws a sloppy head kick and Barnes moves out of range easily.
Barnes tries to clinch but Headden moves out of range.
Headden scores with a nice strike.
Headden catches Barnes napping and connects with a big right hand that sends Barnes to the canvas!


Barnes is rocked!


It looks like Brad Barnes has been cut.

Headden has gone for a leg lock! Barnes slips out almost immediately though and dives into Headden's guard.
Oh Barnes is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Barnes stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Headden swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Barnes seems to have got his legs back now.

Headden has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Barnes can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Headden isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Barnes stacks Headden on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Barnes!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Barnes tries to move to mount but Headden blocks the move with his legs.

Headden tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Barnes wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Barnes darts in and clinches Headden up against the cage.
Headden blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Barnes will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Headden up against the cage.
Headden goes for a takedown in the clinch but Barnes prevents it.

Headden goes for a takedown in the clinch but Barnes prevents it.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Barnes lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Headden circles away quickly and effectively.

Barnes moves into range and clinches up with Headden.
Headden fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Headden tries to pull guard but Barnes holds him up against the cage and eventually Headden drops back down to his feet.

A swing and a miss from Headden.

Headden closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Headden lands in his opponent's guard.
Barnes wants to stand but Headden is controlling the position.

Headden has gone for a leg lock! Barnes slips out almost immediately though and dives into Headden's guard.

Headden has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Barnes can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Headden has his foot on Barnes's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Barnes works his way back into a safe position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Brad Barnes will probably get the nod.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

and Headden decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Barnes's guard.

Headden postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Barnes is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Headden, into his guard.

Barnes knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Headden on the ground.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Barnes is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Headden is looking to improve his position.
Barnes is taking a breather. Headden says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Headden is looking for a sweep. Barnes is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Brad Barnes just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Barnes tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Headden was well out of range. Poor timing from Barnes.

Barnes takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

and Headden counters with a big head kick but Barnes shrugs it off.
No joy there for Headden, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Headden throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Headden showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


The fight stays on the outside here - Barnes looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Barnes takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Headden feints a jab and as Barnes dips his head, Headden unleashes a brutal head kick that catches Barnes right on the jaw! Timbeeer! Barnes falls backwards in slow motion, only propped up by the cage! Headden smiles a psychotic smile as he stares down his unconscious opponent. That is a scary man.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:18 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Steve Headden!
