PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Virgil Clay (ranked 8481 p4p, 0 weight class) and Killer Bee (ranked 5547 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Virgil Clay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Killer Bee!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Micheangelo Fripello and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bee throws a low kick but it's checked well by Clay.
Bee misses with a series of wild punches.

Bee changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Clay looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Bee trying to control the action but Clay is working from the bottom.
Bee just content to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bee is looking to take a break and control but Clay is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Bee in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Bee wants to lay and pray for a moment but Clay keeps working.

Bee remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Clay holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage.
Clay is looking for a sweep.
Bee trying to control the position but Clay is working away.
Bee in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Clay is looking to regain half guard here but Bee keeps moving and retains side control.
Clay is looking to get back to his feet here but Bee is keeping cool and he's managed to take Clay's back.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
What can Clay do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
Bee tries to get the hooks in deep but Clay pushed the leg off.
Bee trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Clay doesn't escape.
Bee is looking to control Clay but Clay is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Bee gets his hands free as Clay looks to control.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Bee's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Clay is trapped and Bee is scoring with shots to the head and body.
Clay looking very determined here, making life difficult for Bee.
Bee biding his time, controlling Clay.

Bee throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting Clay!
Bee is punishing Clay with some ground and pound.

Bee controlling well, preventing Clay from escaping the position.

Bee working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Clay trying to get back to his feet but Bee is in full control for now.

Clay staying busy and making it hard for Bee to control.
Bee is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Clay wants to get back to his feet.
Clay takes a big shot to the side of the head.
Clay is trying to get back to his feet but Bee has full control of the position and if anything, Clay has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Bee is punishing Clay with strikes - can he finish him?!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Bee closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Clay quickly recovers to half guard.
Clay wants to get back to his feet.

Bee is working for a kimura but Clay is defending it quite comfortably.
Bee controlling the action here.
Clay is refusing to be controlled, as Bee sits in half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Clay is trying to stand back up but Bee is controlling him

Bee looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Clay trying to control from the bottom.
Clay is looking for a sweep. Bee is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Bee is taking a breather. Clay says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Bee is trying to control the action in half guard but Clay is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Bee wants to take a breather but Clay is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bee passes the guard and advances to mount!
Bee wants to control the action but instead Clay gets a body lock and reverses into Bee's guard! Nice work!

Bee wants to stand up but Clay is controlling him.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Bee is on top in guard.

Clay is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Bee tries to free his leg and advance position but Clay is retaining full guard.
Clay tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Bee controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bee pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Clay is keeping the position for now.
Clay lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Clay working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Bee looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Bee is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Bee has control of Clay's left arm, preventing Clay from doing any damage.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Bee looking to hit a scissor sweep but Clay is one step ahead there.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Killer Bee showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!



Bee shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Clay pushes Bee off and gets back to his feet.

Bee bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Bee is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Clay is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Bee is staying tight to Clay's torso, preventing him from escaping.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Let's hope that Bee has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Bee has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Bee swings around for an armbar but Clay sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Bee's guard.
Clay stands up over Bee, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Clay loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Clay postures up.
Bee is looking to stand up but Clay isn't so interested in that idea.
Bee working a defensive guard but Clay manages to pass into side control anyway.
Clay connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Bee some visible discomfort.

Clay tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Clay tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Clay has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Bee wants to control the position but that's not easy when your opponent is in side control! Clay seems to be going for some sort of submission here. Hard to say what - oh, it's a Brabo choke! He's got it! Bee is tapping! Wow, great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:36 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Brabo Choke). Virgil Clay!
