PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Rick RollD (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Diego Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). RollD kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is The Rick Roll'D Song Of Hope. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rick RollD!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Diego Sanchez!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Alyssa Summers and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
RollD blocks a low kick nicely.

Sanchez feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Sanchez tries to free his leg and advance position but RollD is retaining full guard.
RollD is looking to stand up but Sanchez isn't so interested in that idea.

RollD knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Sanchez on the ground.

RollD pushes Sanchez off and scrambles back to his feet.
Sanchez fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Sanchez shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Rick RollD seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Sanchez counters with a nice double leg into side control. RollD won't be happy with that.

Sanchez wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by RollD, who protects the arm well.

RollD pushes Sanchez away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Sanchez gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Sanchez laying and praying for a moment but RollD takes advantage and regains half guard.
Sanchez stops RollD from getting back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sanchez works to advance to full mount. RollD defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

RollD is in a horrible position here. Sanchez smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

RollD tries to buck Sanchez off but he can't manage it.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

RollD tries to clinch up but Sanchez circles away and keeps his distance.

and Sanchez counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for RollD!

Sanchez goes for an armbar but RollD turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from RollD.
Sanchez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

RollD decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Sanchez, up you get!

RollD tries to bench press Sanchez off him but Sanchez keeps the position.

RollD is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Sanchez asserts his dominance and retains side control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Sanchez landing strikes.
Sanchez remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Diego Sanchez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


RollD tries to clinch but Sanchez is having none of it.
RollD keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Sanchez pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

RollD throws a knee to the head but misses.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sanchez has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. RollD avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Sanchez takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
RollD with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Sanchez fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Rick RollD has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Diego Sanchez.

RollD's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Sanchez drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but RollD manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Sanchez has RollD in his guard.

Sanchez wants to sweep but no luck.
RollD wants to stand but Sanchez is controlling his posture from full guard.
Sanchez manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. RollD manages to get himself to full guard.

Sanchez gets to his feet - RollD follows without any prompting.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Sanchez keeps the fight on the outside.

Sanchez instigates a clinch.
RollD stalling against the cage.
Sanchez tries to score a body lock takedown but RollD shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Sanchez gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

RollD wants to stand but Sanchez is controlling the position.
RollD has momentary wrist control but Sanchez slips an elbow through the middle.

And that's the end of the fight!
Diego Sanchez comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Sanchez winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
